At Gang of Four’s phenomenal performance Friday night at Showbox (which lived up to my hyperbole about the band), some aging fan right behind me engaged in perhaps the most inappropriate crowd response in… a very long time. In the bleak, sparse “Paralysed,” Andy Gill croaked, “My ambitions come to nothing.” During the long pause that preceded the next line, aging fan shouted, “YEAH!” while pumping his fist. I doubt he noticed the irony.
