Better a maverick than a Xerox machine.

off topic.

This Joe the plumber shit bugs me. The urbane hipsters mocked him on Slog yesterday. But we gotta get votes from folks like him plus change the whole taxes are criminal frame.
The NYT has a story on Joe the plumber and it says he says "it’s my discretion who I want to give my money to; it’s not for the government decide that I make a little too much and so I need to share it with other people. That’s not the American Dream.”
Hey BULL FUCKING SHIT.

Our freedom is to elect people who do have the power to tax anyone. It's taxation with representation. We were set up to be against taxation without rep.

How does a bit more in taxes stop him from buying a business anyway?

Any facts and figures, anyone? What are the additional Obama taxes if you make $250K? How does that stop you from buying a business that has $250K in profit? Say it's another $15K in take home. The new tax laws apply to all businesses and all income so you're going to now take a pass on the acquisition -- why?

And anyway how does more taxes mean fewer employees, then you'll just make only say $150K in profit which won't help.

Joe the Plumber is a plant, PC. He's related to a Keating stooge. He's a Republican operative with a salable resume. And no, we don't need him or his kind.

My toddler son sometimes insists on peeing on his own and standing up even though he can't aim effectively and sprays the wall as much as the toilet. He is a maverick.

Re: Joe the Plumber

Quote from the NY Times:

And his question to Mr. Obama about paying taxes? According to some tax analysts, if Mr. Wurzelbacher’s gross receipts from his business is $250,000 — and not his taxable income — then he would not have to pay higher taxes under Mr. Obama’s plan, and probably would be eligible for a tax cut.

So you're going ahead and plain old completely ripping off The Onion now via American Voices?

Well, Keck probably owns the rights so whatever.

@11, you seem to be confused about what the concept of "ripping off" means.

Why don't you break it down for me, Fnarf. What is the concept of ripping off?

Copying material. This isn't copying material. It's not even really very similar at all. And the Onion hardly has a patent on satiric "man in the street" interviews, a device that's at least a hundred years old.

It's just a trend I've noticed over the last year or so....

"NEW COLUMN" = "THIS PART OF THE PAPER IS JUST LIKE THE ONION! THEN LATER ON WE WILL MAKE APPEALS TO CREDIBILITY AND CRITICIZE THE SEATTLE TIMES FOR NOT BEING PERFECT...YOU KNOW, EVEN THOUGH WE IMPERSONATE PEOPLE. AND MOCK OTHERS. AND EVEN STILL IMPERSONATE AND MOCK PEOPLE FROM THE SEATTLE TIMES"

and yes I just went all caps lock on your ass, Fnarf...old man gay.

@15-----"old man gay"? What does that mean??

@15, you've been reading New Column! for a year and you still think it's real? That's weird. It's been pretty much the same way for fifteen years or so.

I never claimed to think it is real, Fnarf. In fact, I know it is so fake that I based my argument against claims to credibility on the fact that it is satire.

And show me something a couple years old that is so purely contrived and I'll shut up.

Old man gay = my cheap shot at you being over 50, washed up, and on Slog allll fucking day. As witty and smart as you are, that doesn't detract from how sad it is.

There are much more important things to criticize about McCain than his age. I think the age jokes just make us look petty. Plus, it is ageist.
