Hey, I got an idea. Let's pass a 140 million parks levy that the city won't have the staff to support. It's time to splurge when you can't cover the basics. Right?

How many cops and firefighters are losing their jobs?

Oh, come on! Forget friggin Mercer-- improve pedestrian infrastructure, put in an elevated bike highway and give the SLUT enough leeway to actually shift people at rush hour instead of being a tuna can for two hours a day.

Kissing Ken Schram's ass and giving suburbanites 640 acres of asphalt isn't going to fix this critical infrastructure problem.

My fear is that this is all going down the toilet in a couple of months when the full impact of the recession hits and they're looking at across-the-board 20% cuts to everything.

At this juncture, heading into a recession, I'd rather see increases to the basics like shelters and soup kitchens than more complicated programs to curb violence and getting people off the streets permanently.

But, come on, fixing the Mercer mess? The only way to truly fix it would be to completely overhaul the street grid on South Lake Union. As if.

Why doesn't Gates donate the email software?

That or the city can save money and get a more bulletproof Linux solution like the REST of the world.

oh, and AJ, Nick Licata has a forum on a proposal like yours ... it's on Facebook as an Event titled Mercer Street Forum ... it's at City Hall.

I'd look it up and all, but it's merely a small point in noting that many/most KCLS branches open somewhere between 9 and 11 am.
