Breaking: Telemarketers Have Souls

posted by on October 27 at 17:40 PM

TPM sez:

Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.

Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being “dangerously weak on crime,” “coddling criminals,” and for voting against “protecting children from danger.”

If we win this, I hope John McCain becomes a total fucking pariah.

If Obama wins, I hope robocalls are made illegal.

Sarah Palin is new face of the Good Ol' Party, destined to play spoiler in 3 way races throughout the Deep South and Big Sky states for the next 10 or 15 years.

Hey. Where the fuck did "Big Sky" come from? Do hillbillies really think the sky changes size? I mean I know they won't study Darwin but this is like Copernicus and Kepler and so on. Aristotle, truth be told.

Anyway, I adore Sarah Palin and all she's done for America, and all she will do in the coming years. God sent her and she will remain with us until God calls her back.

#1, what exactly would the justification for that be?

Oh, shit. You were talking about McCain, not Palin.

McCain will be forgotten by all. I'm already having trouble remembering he's still around.

Before you go smacking around telemarketers, remember how hard it is to get a job in this bush economy.

He probably only walked out because we're pretty sure it'll all be better in 6 months.

McCain sold his soul to the Devil a long time ago.

The cranky fucker deserves whatever he gets.

...and don't forget that these are folks who probably really, REALLY need those horrible, underpaid phone center jobs, so quitting on principle is no small gesture on their part.

A couple side notes, robo calls are illegal in Indiana which is why the campaign had to pay a firm to have live humans make their lying calls. And fortunately the telemarketers weren't fired they only lost todays work -- probably not from any great moral kindness on the employer's part, it's tough to keep people in that industry.

Telemarketing call centers in Indiana? Is that a typo for India?

A pariah?! But John McCain totally saved the Nakotomi building, and the DC Airport.

Oh, wait, "McClane", sorry.

Even if Obama were to lose, McCain would end up a pariah, only just a little later - like Dubya has become. Ultimately, a happy ending, of a sort, either way.

@2: "big sky" refers to the distant vistas of central & eastern montana. the dome of the sky really does appear larger, aided by the altitude - bozeman is at 4700'. you should visit.

@11: the workforce in indiana is less educated than in india, and the job options are more limited there - telemarket or walmart. unless you want to, god forbid, GROW THINGS.
