2008 Blogging the Obamamercial
posted by October 29 at 16:10 PM
onJoin me here on Slog, in this sixth-to-last day before the election, and let’s watch the Obamamercial together, shall we?
5 p.m. Pacific. See you then.
And here’s the preview, just released by the Obama campaign:
Why not 8 p.m. Pacific? Because I believe that, while the networks will presumably delay the ad on the west coast so that it shows at 8 p.m. local time, the cable networks (MSNBC et al) will not. Maybe I’m wrong. In which case… see you at 8 p.m. Pacific.
UPDATE: Well, it’s playing on MCNBC at 5 p.m. Pacific, but it’s all screwed up on my cable service. Unwatchable. Maybe a Comcast conspiracy? I’ll try again at 8.

Umm...that would be 8:00 pm, not 5:00 pm, and PDT, not PST.
I don't have a TV! Where can I watch it online?!
I wonder if any of the people Obama shows America will be Gay-Americans? Probably not, Gay-Americans are still invisible.
Check CNN and/or MSNBC... they should be airing it at 5 pm with the rest of the country so they can run live commentary on their night shows.
Will someone resolve the issue of when this is actually on?
it's PST now. PDT is in the summer.
And we'll see the show at 8 pm *our* time.
Maybe Eli is gettin' dishy wit it, but otherwise we'll have the three-hour delay to see it prime time.
I guess you could watch it at 5:00 PDT if you were watching it on cable, but yeah the local broadcast version is at 8:00, opposite Pushing Up Daisies - Dim Sum Lose Sum. It's even on at 8:00 on Univision here - as Barack Obama: Historias Americanas. It follows a program called Querida Enemiga (Sra Palin?)
It's on at 8pm. Maybe somewhere on the net at 5pm
@6 Wrong. We're still observing daylight savings time. Sunday it'll switch to PST.
Real time nerds know it's still PDT until Nov. 2nd.
Well, FOX is airing the spot before the World Series, so they'll probably air it at 5pm, non?
I'm hoping that the Obama campaigns makes this video available on their website later, cos I work until 6pm.
Until then, I'll catch up on the Live Slogging.
@6 Actually, it's still PDT since we haven't switched back yet, that's next weekend(Nov 2nd)
@6: We're on PDT until we change our clocks.
@11, FOX is airing it after the world series for the west coast.
@9 & 10. you're right, my fail.
i want my hour now and can't wait until sunday.
CNN has said they are NOT airing it.
KOMO and KING are listing it at 8PM
@14: Thanks for the clarification. Does that mean 8pm local time officially then? Cos that means I don't miss it afterall.
You know, in parts of Idaho and BC they don't actually use DST so ...
Why does CNN hate America so?
oops ...
KIRO (CBS), KING (NBC), and KCPQ (FOX) have it scheduled at 8PM ...
KOMO does not list it in the Comcast guide
Why does Obama hate Pushing Daisies? This makes me sad.
For outstanding comment stated as fact but bearing no - or incorrectly applied - facts...
the Willy goes to #6!
It's definitely on MSNBC at 5pm our time (PDT, as noted) 10 minutes!!! woot!
So...looks like 8pm local time (and perhaps also 5pm, but no one knows).
Twilight Exit doesn't currently plan to show it. They might turn it on if people show up.
I'd also like to watch Obama on The Daily Show. Why everything on the same night?
Psyched we got the PDT/PST thing settled!
@21
duly noted @15.
and you've been nominated for an Awardy.
the internet guy who takes it upon himself to dole out awards, WINs, and FAILs. i'd just award it to you outright, but i don't wield that sort of bloggish power. only Awardy winners do.
it says 8 pm PST right on the video's FIRST FUCKING FRAME. you don't even have to play it to read it.
I think we need to get the Stranger offices a TV and a Tivo so they know whats on when and can host some parties too
It's on RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND on MSNBC in Seattle.
It's on MSNBC right now, so where's the liveslog?
Where on the Internets can I watch this thing? Is it streaming somewhere like they streamed the debates?
My friends, it is small wonder this great nation has been brought low if we (still) are unable to clearly communicate to our citizens the correct starting time of a television event. Did we have this problem in the 50's with Leave it to Beaver? No! Or in the 60's with the Beverly Hillbillies? No! Or the 70's with Mary Tyler Moore? No! Or the 80's with Dynasty? No! Or the 90's with Will & Grace? No!
These were far simpler times. My friends I fear for the future of our country should Mr. Obama be elected, his librul temporal mismanagement will be the downfall of us all. We will no longer know when to watch our tv programs as he will tax the very hands of time and allow his terrorist pals to steal the very programs off of our tv sets as they sit in our living rooms!

I can't wait till you're LiveSlogging the INAUGURATIONNNNNNN woohoo
Where's the live slog?
Is it on the CW as well? ANTM!!!
You guys are like addicts... you don't get your Obama and you snap. I've never seen so many exclamation points on Slog.
Andy @35
Being inspired (Obama)and being inspired by FEAR (McCain, Bush) are two very different things.
Addicted to Democracy, fuck YES.
Nope, sorry, it's @20 for the win.
Pushing Daisies is teh best.
I had the Obama tv commercial on and saw it was going to be all "oh, I met all these Americans..." and I put "West Wing" dvd back on. Does that make me bad? My vote for Obama isn't changing and I don't need to see "Stories of Americans" to sway me. I'd rather pretend for the next week that Obama/Smits is taking over for Bartlett.
