A Bumper Sticker Broke My Heart…

posted by on August 25 at 16:24 PM

I heard whispers that this damn “slogan” or whatever existed. Nasty rumors that, um, “protesters” (of what, exactly?) carry it printed on signs. Hell’s bells: maybe this has even been posted here before, a million years ago, and everybody’s seen it but me.

But, dammit. I just saw it myself, for the very first time, on a bumper sticker. And the damn thing totally crushed me.

I feel like kicking a puppy.

A fucking Republican puppy.

kicking puppies is mean! Punch a kitten instead.

Kicking puppies is the kind of thing you would expect from an Obama-hating Republican. Why not just kick a conservative instead.

You have to admit that "Keep the Change" is funnier than "McCain 08: More of the Same, Please!"

Posted by flamingbanjo | August 25, 2008 4:48 PM

What, that silly sticker upsets? I think it's lame. "Nobama - Keep the change" - a play on words with no bite.

Now "McSame, McLame, McStupid" - now those kick ass.

We won't vote for Nobama and Hillary will redefeat...and...ummm...we won't...won't...No...

You mean there's opposition to Obama?

Kick a puppy? Fuck that, man. Hook it up to some electrodes and turn up the juice!

Posted by Michael Vick | August 25, 2008 5:01 PM

@5 That makes me feel incredibly sulky.

But can you let it go, IMM? ;-)

"Keep the change" while mildly clever at first sight, isn't much of a rebuke once you think about it for two seconds.

@3 It's funnier, but they're both the same message, and one has to wonder why the neo-cons want to bring more attention to that point.

@5, @8 & @10,

I appreciate the tribute.

And FWIW, I'd personally like to see Dan Savage and Adrian Ryan kicking a pit bull puppy to death, on viral video to boot. Hey, that's just the kinda fella I am. Can that be arranged?

And no, I don't feel like letting it go.

Posted by The Incredible Sulk | August 25, 2008 7:22 PM

I saw one of these in Arizona (along with a few Obama 08 stickers!). You'll notice there's a lot of Republican name-calling and FUD without substance.

They're frightened!

McCain '08: Stay Off My Lawn!
McCain '08: Because He Probably Won't Die in Office.
McCain '08: Better than Torture!
McCain '08: Smells Like Grandpa!
McCain '08: Ready to Lead Since the Earth Cooled.
McCain '08: We Don't Like to Talk about the Colostomy Bag.
McCain '08: Behold, the Power of Viagra.

Posted by A Non Imus | August 25, 2008 8:51 PM

Damn it I used it first and now some mofo put it on the sticker. Here we go - we won't support NO-Bama and will re-defeat him in November!!! Go Hillary 2012!!!

Posted by clintonsarmy | August 25, 2008 10:04 PM

Right up there with all the Dino Rossi signs in Eastern WA that include the tag line "Don't Seattle steal another election".

Instead of always going for the easy jokes of cruelty to small animals-say what you fucking mean!!! Say you hate Republicans (or at least what they stand for-or don't stand for). I feel the same way you do when I see idiotic slogans, bumper stickers, etc. But I love animals, all animals, and man, I know you're just kidding, but it pisses me off to hear people say they feel like kicking a puppy, or kitten or any small living being. Mentally kick the fucking Republicans and just get it over with, no harm done.

Animals are smarter than all of us, just because we can't understand them doesn't mean there aren't huge ideas in their heads-if they could vote, I'm sure it would be for Obama!

Can't we all try to sound wiser and brighter than the McCain lovers out there, and work our asses off to make sure Obama gets elected?

Maybe the best revenge is to know we are carrying a much larger brain around than the people who support another four to eight years of Republican bullshit and destruction!

If I just briefly glanced at this while driving, as I do with most bumper stickers, I'd assume it was for Obama instead of against.
Bumper stickers are silly.

I saw two other versions of nObama bumper stickers, and one that said "The only change you'll have will be the change in your pocket." I was a little bummed too, but I've been enjoying unexpected "Another Mama for Obama" stickers for a year now and I guess the opposition is entitled to their stupid opinions.

No such thing as a Republican puppy.

Posted by Mike in MO | August 26, 2008 5:53 AM

McCain 08: Boring can be good.
McCain 08: War is fun!
McCain 08: He's not rich enough yet!
McCain 08: Dude, where's my house?
McCain 08: War with Russia in 09!
McCain 08: Skinheads approve!
McCain 08: Who needs good grades?
McCain 08: Funny face, bad breath.

Posted by Vince | August 26, 2008 6:46 AM

Exactly, @22 - no puppy would ever be a Republican.

I've seen even worse than this, the NOBAMA sticker but instead of that sun rising logo, there is the crescent moon. I considered taking a picture but did not want to besmirch any innocent piece of technology with a base lie.

@19: Take a deep breath. Exhale. Now switch to decaf.

Posted by Darcy | August 26, 2008 10:05 AM

Just the other day, I found myself driving behind a SUV that had two prominent bumper stickers. One was a "NoBama", and the other the other simply said, "Shut up and Drill", with an oil rig for the 't'. I was at a loss for words.
