Oh my god, I wanna do that tranny bear so hard.

Posted by Tom C. | July 31, 2008 7:42 PM

Christ, I opened for Katz once...

Very cool!

Posted by Chris B | July 31, 2008 7:44 PM

Where they all padded or was that real fat?

Posted by Sargon Bighorn | July 31, 2008 7:47 PM

Opps ... Are they all padded...oh never mind.

Posted by Sargon Bighorn | July 31, 2008 7:48 PM

I'm particularly dense tonight and I'm confused by the lyrics. So, he's a woman, but he identifies as a man, but as a gay man so he likes men, but he doesn't have a penis because he's a woman, so when he meets a gay lover he'll use a dildo? Or have I totally misinterpreted the lovely song that has me longing for a slap bracelet...

Posted by PopTart | July 31, 2008 7:57 PM

I didn't get it either. He's biologically male, right? I thought I understood what the word transsexual meant until right now.

Posted by Matthew | July 31, 2008 8:06 PM

Sooo, He/She is a woman who identifies as a gay man and dresses like a middle age lesbian?

Posted by WTF???? | July 31, 2008 8:15 PM

He's a man who likes boys and girls and was born a woman. It's not that complicated. Jeeze.

Posted by Sandy | July 31, 2008 8:32 PM

Perhaps the word I had to look up, "fagette", is a clue...

Posted by jebus h. xst | July 31, 2008 8:35 PM

Some bio-women identify as gay or bisexual men. This one happens to be out, exceptionally well-adjusted, and scorching hot. Meow.

Posted by meggers | July 31, 2008 8:41 PM

Yeah, sure, but the song is terrible and the video is boring.

Posted by chris | July 31, 2008 8:54 PM

Hee. I also like his earlier song "Tranny Got Pack"...

Posted by meara | July 31, 2008 8:54 PM

I'd tap that shit. HAWT!

Posted by Deacon Seattle | July 31, 2008 9:03 PM

He just did a tour of the Northwest, including my neighbourhood hangout here in Vancouver. Way, way better in person. Amazing energy.

And yes, totally hawt. :D

Posted by Cow | July 31, 2008 9:14 PM

Also, his piece on Waffle House is hilarious after half an hour of discussing gender and sexuality. (And it was fun being one of three people--including Katz--who knew what Waffle House *was*. Silly Canadians.)

Posted by Cow | July 31, 2008 9:19 PM

Wow, I totally went to college with that guy. Was def. a girl then; looks much better now.

Posted by Heath | July 31, 2008 10:15 PM

required for str8 viewers? not everybody is a faggot, dan.

it seems a bit off-putting, and would you say that is required for viewers in the dakotas (or even the montanas)?

i'd rather chris crocker.

Posted by fuck | July 31, 2008 10:18 PM

sorry, don't get it ... why is this required?

Posted by Will in Seattle | July 31, 2008 10:40 PM

I thought it was hilarious and oddly self assured given the prodo values etc.

A definite watch.

Posted by Kal | August 1, 2008 12:27 AM

Dan, thank you. I live in Athens, GA and the Athens Boys Choir is amazing live. AMAZING.

and I'm sorry there are all these idiots that don't see why it's required viewing or feel offended.

"sorry, don't get it...why is this required?" Dan isn't your teacher or your mother, Will, you don't have to do everything he asks.

Ok. That's it from me for now.

The reason I myself don't think its particularly "required viewing" is because the video is terrible and I honestly hate the music.

The singer looks like a great person, the lyrics are interesting, but the beat is tired and contrived, uninteresting, and unoriginal. And the music video is painful to watch.

Judging from other comments they are "much better live" and, considering this, I would actually recommend an amendment to Dan's orders: "required to see this group live".

Just because it is about "faggettes" and interesting forms of sexuality does not give it any excuse to be so bland and cliche. Too often I find homosexual-themed media (be it music, movie, or television) to be forgiven if it sucks just because it deals with gay issues. "Who cares if it was poorly written and terribly acted! Who cares if it looks like it was filmed using my cell phone's video capture! It's about gays so it is awesome!"

Ugh. Lets try to keep gay themed works on the same standards as everything else please, and not just give it a pass because its gay.

Posted by MarsAttack | August 1, 2008 7:22 AM

@21, Ooooo, gurl, there IS ice on Mars! Three dildo snapz atchoo in your face!!! put the "Shhhh" in Tranny Shack, baby.

MarsAttack is theoretically right. But I thought this video was pretty clever, even if it was obvious where the fat people in Athens were when it was being filmed.

Ummm... Okay.

Team Gina!

Posted by Sarah | August 1, 2008 10:06 AM

Rumor has it, Seattle actually has the second largest trans guy (FTM) population in the country. Of course some will be fags, just like the rest of y'all. Anyone see Out Magazine's trans issue? Full of hottie transfags (fagettes, if you will). Last year, I attended a great panel/discussion among trans and nontrans fags at Gender Odyssey. Conversations like this about the fuzziness of gender and the gender binarific preferences of some queers need to happen more in the gay community.

Posted by Jesse Vernon | August 1, 2008 10:39 AM

This video just made my day.

and I'm with @24.

Posted by genevieve | August 1, 2008 12:06 PM

Love him! Cameo by Team Gina (nice)

Posted by Bmore | August 1, 2008 12:07 PM

Um, I think my ex is in that. As a backup dancer. WTF?

Posted by olechka | August 1, 2008 12:19 PM

@ 21...

I'll give you the idea that gay media that is poorly made is generally praised because of its subject matter rather than its production value (Noah's Arc is HORRIBLY acted, written, all of it, yet it's about black, gay men and therefore it's championed)--but the low quality is usually because of a lack of widespread funding.

I'm not saying I'm an expert, and I do like the ABC's song and video. But until there are media conglomerates offering to bank roll some great GLBTQ material, we're going to continue to get low-quality, youtube-esque film.

Posted by anna | August 1, 2008 12:48 PM

Why hasn't anyone pointed out that Team Gina are in this video at 1:13?

Is it because I'm wrong.

Anyway, They're grrreat!

Posted by jnonymous | August 3, 2008 12:08 AM

Oops. I should have kept watching instead of hitting the pause button.

Posted by jnonymous | August 3, 2008 12:11 AM

Seriously! That was totally HOT! Thanks to whoever made this and worked on it for putting creative and sexy fat folks in the spotlight for once. And for those that don't get it, do you really think that you are so smart that anything that is beyond you is just crazy? Get over yourselves. This is an amazing video that creates a voice and vision of hot queers that are not already represented in mainstream media like the L word or Queer as Folk.

Posted by fancy | August 3, 2008 10:42 PM

I agree that queer art should be judged at the level of other art and not forgiven for being crap.

This video rocks! It is creative, visually stimulating, well developed plot, set and costumes, quality lighting, well edited. It may have also been done on a small budget, more DIY than polished expensive.

Hooray for hot queer art!
