once again, this doesn't work. there is actual, albeit exaggerated, truth in this cover. also, who's the asian guy in the picture?

Almost perfect. Shouldnt there be someone being waterboarded in the background?

Once again, the rumors about Obama exploited in the New Yorker's cover are blatantly untrue, but still given credence by a number of conservatives. McCain simply doesn't have the same caliber of harmful rumors circulating about him, the ones he has are rooted in truths. So these little knock-offs simply don't work tit-for-tat. In fact, they imply there is substance to the Obama one.

And dammit, that's a lousy illustration artistically too. Find a professional at least.

@1: The 1/2-a-mirror-man looks vaguely like Ho Chi Minh...

Posted by E | July 15, 2008 2:41 PM

McCain looks like Gerald Ford in this rendering.

closer, but (@3) if they wanted to go with 'harmful rumors' they could find some way of having mccain's black lovechild in the photo somewhere.

and, to be kinda fair, depicting mccain as 'batshit crazy' (straightjacket)and PTSDed could be considered not rooted in the absolute truth.

nonetheless, the hypocrisy would be that Goopers this surely wouldn't be laughing if this appeared on the cover of the National Review.

It's not funny because it's true.

Just because McCain was tortured and spoke out against America on international TV, doesn't mean he's the Manchurian candidate.

Ignore the large donations and trade connections with Red China by the neocons who support McCain ...

We won't support ball-less NO-Bama and will re-defeat him in November!!

I agree with #1. None of these are comparable to the Obama cover because these McCaina ones hold an element of truth. The Obama cover cannot be called satire all by itself because it holds no elements of truth whatsoever.

it's true? isn't that what we were making fun of the republicans for saying?

or do you really think he is periodically restrained in a straight jacket?

Posted by infrequent | July 15, 2008 4:12 PM

I was thinking Ho Chi Minh, but I really have no idea.

Posted by keshmeshi | July 15, 2008 4:39 PM

I think it's Pat Morita.

Posted by DOUG. | July 15, 2008 5:09 PM

Manchurian Candidate, anyone?

Posted by MichaelPgh | July 15, 2008 5:40 PM

That's what I was thinking. Isn't rather simple if you consider the other way around?

Would any magazine ever dare to do a satire, using the left as the target of the joke, with a cover where a insanely senile-looking John McCane laughs while he is shooting a brown child in her oil-spilling head (like in the infamous Vietnam photo mixed with the screaming girl) and holding a leash on a ape (perhaps also as a vague reference to the Abu Ghraib photo) that's raping a woman-nature on the floor, while he shouts "PAY MY ALLOWANCE OR I'LL DIE LIKE THOSE POOR SPICS, YOU RICH CUNT!" to his wife, while the entire press aplauds while saying "He can rape my privacy any time he wants -- and I sure as hell won't use the morning pill afterwards!" with a big smile as Blackwater points guns at them?

Surely not, right?

But if someone were to do that cartoon, please... not something tasteless. And soon, please.

13 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Mike in MO | July 15, 2008 7:53 PM

Does this count as "satire" of the left?

Posted by Mick | July 15, 2008 9:50 PM

1. Dementia drool coming out the side of his mouth

2. Weeping melanoma ulcer on his neck

3. His hand hen pecking above a laptop with a giant question mark over his head and a "Duh?" expression on his face

4. George W. "12% approval rating" Bush depicted as a little man whispering instructions in McCain's ear.

5. One hundred twenty-seven tally marks on the wall under the heading "US Years in Iraq".

Uh it would be so sweet if the New Yorker would come out with this cover as an October surprise.
