Anonymous Clinching

posted by on June 3 at 11:32 AM

Just to clarify, and continue the “suspense” for a few more hours: That AP story about Obama clinching the nomination hinges on more than a dozen anonymous superdelegates.

Which is not how you count superdelegates, says Mr. Smith:

Not to be a stickler here, but that’s not how this has been working, either in our count or in in the Obama campaign’s. The commitments that matter are the ones that are public. So the story is trivial: I think you could probably get virtually all of the superdelegates at this point to privately acknowledge that they’ll vote for Obama at the convention.

So as far as the (academic) matter of deciding when exactly Obama gets the majority, I’m going to stick with named supporters. Our count, and the Obama campaign’s, leave him about 30 shy.

The moment of non-anonymous clinching will probably happen after the polls close in Montana and South Dakota this evening.

We're going to play semantics all the way to Denver, I see. Mr. Smith, shut the fuck up.

Oh no! What ever shall we do!?

Oh . . . we can just wait until tomorrow, when it'll be true.

Thanks, Smitty!

You're probably spot on, as usual, Eli.

And we should probably also remind Slog's readers that anonymous clinching is a great way to get the clap.

By the weekend, all but two of the Governors who backed Clinton are expected to announce, after Tuesday's results, that they're backing Obama.

It's over.

Obama for Super-Secret President '08!

Or, maybe he already is!

I'm clinching my sphincters in anticipation right now. Well, the ones I can clinch voluntarily that is...

@6 -- Have you taken it up the third eye so many times you need a draw string?

Gee Odrama is such a strong and popular candidate that he can't wait till the last two primaries to finish. If Clinton gets close in the last two primaries some of these dumb super delegates should at least give support to Clinton.

@7 Umm, no I can still control that one voluntarily thank you very much. I was referring to the fact that the human body has something like 40 sphincters, some are voluntarily controlled, some involuntarily. Unless Wikipedia is lying to me, in which case I retract my previous post because of Wikiidiocy.

I can play "Oh, Suzannah" with my duodenum.

@9 -- Thanks for the new info! :-)

@10 -- But I bet you always open with something by Squeeze (think about it...)?

Anonymous clinching? Sounds like something you need a "wide stance" for.
