A Blank(ish) Canvas

posted by on May 31 at 12:00 PM

From Slog tipper Mark: “Saw this land notice over on Madison and Pike, across from the Madison Market. Cracked me up.”

“moat (filled with sharks).” Lovely. These signs demand modification. Someone should hold a contest…

(A friend of mine once proposed to his girlfriend by building a mock version of one of these boards, titled “Notice of Proposed Hand Use Action.” He wrote his proposal in opaque, DPD-ese and drew a schematic of her hand, with the proposed ring. He planted it in a yard she usually passed on her way to work. She accepted.)

The city itself is world-writable, and it's one of the things I love most about living here.

That is Great! It made my weekend happy.

As a resident of the adjacent Garden Court Building, whose only source of daylight will be blocked by the new JFS office building, I'm glad to see some resistance! Before this modification someone had drawn in other floor plan details like "Suzie's room" and "half bath," but this one wins, hands down.

well isn't that just tender-precious

The only thing that's constant is change.

...and whining about change.

The pit vipers aren't actually a bad idea!

Anyone else see the defaced condo sale signs that were around for a day or two? They were modified to say "whites only" and "no cripples" and other such things. Pretty obnoxious. Pretty funny. Gone in hours. I wish I had taken a photo.

"hand use action?" that's an unfortunate wasn't the first place my mind went

Kudos to the artist for his second unsolicited mention on Slog. (Note the Haloed Buffalo to the left of the parody floor plan, whose twin hangs above Dominic Holden's desk.)

Update to anyone who is still reading this thread: Just walked past the sign and the shark-infested moat etc comments have been painted over. I'm actually impressed that the city government acted so quickly on something without having endless debates, forums, public comment periods and possibly a citywide referendum on the November 2010 ballot.

Yes! More land-use-proposal-based hilarity, graffiti artists!
