What the?

posted by on April 29 at 13:22 PM

Did T-Mobile’s entire network just go out? What is happening? And why all the sirens outside?

UPDATE: Seriously. Do you have T-Mobile? Try making a phone call. I would call T-Mobile but, uh, I CAN’T!

Stop being a pussy. Go outside and find out. Sheesh.

T-Mobile blows, that is why I dumped them years ago.

I'm calling Frizzelle right now... and it doesn't work. Weird.

Posted by Dan Savage | April 29, 2008 1:38 PM

i've tied calling you and three other t-mobile people and get a "network busy" screen

Posted by thickturd | April 29, 2008 1:42 PM

I'm on T-Mobile. My phone has no service. I'm at 23rd and Madison.

Posted by blank12357 | April 29, 2008 1:43 PM

Works for me.

Posted by bemaha | April 29, 2008 1:43 PM

none of our t-mobile phones work out in west seattle.... the world is ending.

Posted by CoffmanLegal | April 29, 2008 1:43 PM

Oh, I should mention that I'm at Green Lake. But yeah, I'm able to call out.

Posted by bemaha | April 29, 2008 1:45 PM

um maybe you should pay your cell phone bill...

Posted by jhell | April 29, 2008 1:50 PM

T-Mobile is for bitches.

Posted by Mr. Poe | April 29, 2008 1:50 PM

I'm at 20th and Madison - I was able to make a call, but everything was delayed. I called my home (yes, I have a land line), it took an extra second or two before the other line started ringing, and when my phone picked up and I entered the code to check my messages at home, it took a few seconds to switch to voicemail. Then it wouldn't accept my PIN code, even though my cell screen showed I entered the correct numbers. Strange!

I made a call just fine.

No problems here. I lost network coverage once or twice yesterday on Capitol Hill but it came right back. I just made a call without any problems.

Also, in addition to #1... see:

A journalist(?) hears sirens outside, and his first thought? "I know, I'll post something online and ask if anyone out there knows what's going on!"

Posted by tomcat98109 | April 29, 2008 2:06 PM

I can call out but I can't receive calls. My phone is a pitcher, it seems, and not a catcher.

Posted by Dan Savage | April 29, 2008 2:07 PM

Oh how funny - I've been sitting here turning my phone on and off, taking out the battery, putting it back in....thank god for Slog!
btw I've had no probs at all with T-Mobile at all, up until now.

Posted by scharrera | April 29, 2008 2:08 PM

Oh, no! But there's a ketchup emergency at home!

Posted by Mr. Poe | April 29, 2008 2:11 PM

I heard the sirens too, looked like a house fire around the corner form where I live.

Call 611, give them your zip, see if an outage has been reported. Pretty easy.

Posted by stinkbug | April 29, 2008 2:19 PM

it was probably christopher frizzelle's enormous you-know-what.

Posted by scary tyler moore | April 29, 2008 2:20 PM

I'm on T-Mobile.

Outbound calls from Redmond work fine. Inbound calls are going straight to voicemail.
Retreiving voicemail works fine.

Posted by The Gay Curmudgeon | April 29, 2008 2:26 PM

Dunno. I'm on T-Mobile, but I use my phone about once a week. I'll let you know in a few days.

Posted by Geni | April 29, 2008 2:44 PM

*laughs at reference to ketchup emergency*

Posted by w7ngman | April 29, 2008 2:47 PM

my t-mobile works and i saw about 6 medic/fire engines race by while at a staff meeting on s jackson heading east from the intersection of 12th & jackson

Posted by Jiberish | April 29, 2008 2:54 PM

My t-mobile service was out entirely for several hours (that I know of) mid-day. This is especially embarrassing as I can see the t-mobile headquarters from my home.

Posted by Daniel Marsh | April 29, 2008 3:08 PM

Yeah, I got a few "network failure" messages when I tried to make calls between 1 and 2pm.

Posted by vika | April 29, 2008 3:18 PM

Is this related to why I tried 5 WaMu ATMs downtown before I was able to finally find one that was working?

Posted by Sarah | April 29, 2008 3:25 PM

i'm blaming catherine zeta-jones.

she also gave me chlamydia.

Posted by michael strangeways | April 29, 2008 3:31 PM

Posted by undu | April 29, 2008 3:41 PM

T-mobile here in SF just gave me a series of "retry?"'s. Seems ok now. They've been warning use this was going to be a big solar flare year. Who knows?
