[Character Study is a new weekly feature—an interview with a person on the street by photographer Brayden Olson.]

LOCATION Denny Way and Bellevue Ave
TIME 3/08 3:03:41

Where do you get a bag like that?
Seattle Silk Company at the Convention Center across the way from Kinkos! They are 10 dollars and the logo is free… purple, blue, magenta, cream, teal… red—you know— any color you want.
Those dolphins are fresh! Ten bucks?
Oh yes, and they have all different types off logos on the wall and you can pick any of them to be put on for free. They steam press it right in front of you like magic.
Thanks for spilling the beans, man. When are they open?
From nine in the morning until six in the evening. I work very close to there, you know?
Where do you work?
Oh no, don’t go there… it’s a secret!
You know, Raymond, secrets hurt feelings.
Well, I am off to work, nice to talk to you.

Well, now that we've gotten today's ration of spam out of the way, we can all moue along to something important.

Numba' fo': Now that you've wasted a few seconds of your life responding to spam, perhaps you can move on to something important.

Why are his responses in italics and quotation marks?

I just saw Raymond on the payphone outside City Market last night whilst I was buying an after dinner pint of Ben & Jerry's with my boyfriend. He was chatting away, smoking his cigarette. We mentioned to each other that it was a rare sight these days, someone talking happily on a payphone. Not some crackhead screaming at a non-existent listener on the other end of the line.

@7: Great, now I look CRAZY.

I dig the concept for this new feature. But can we please bring back Kelly O's porn column too?

Posted by Anon | March 10, 2008 10:24 AM

I'm with #10. Bring back the Kelly O porn column!

Posted by Biggie J | March 10, 2008 10:28 AM

Add another vote for great slog content, but porn columns are fun for the kids too.

Freaking awesome.

But the question still remains: is this man being ironically hip w/ such an out-of-date bag, or does he really admire the artist? And, does it really matter?

Posted by manic preacha | March 10, 2008 11:11 AM

Not to be disrespectful, but nothing about the man screams ironically hip.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | March 10, 2008 11:37 AM

Is this the same Brayden Olson who is a UW student and CEO of Novel Conception????!!!

Posted by HL | March 10, 2008 11:39 AM

Those are some deep comments concerning Raymond. I look forward to learning more about Raymond and others on the street.............what other color bags does he have?

Posted by Badmomma | March 10, 2008 11:46 AM

Ironic musings about his bag isn't's rude.

You didn't think his bag was radical, you thought it was stupid.

Quit being a hipster ironic prick.

Posted by ecce homo | March 10, 2008 1:03 PM

i'm sure some variation of hip or dangerous could be played quite easily around town.
