Let’s Go!

The Public Intern is bringing lemon squares, right?

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 10, 2008 5:19 PM

I'll pass again. Based on the reaction JMR is getting, it sounds like Slog readers are openly hostile to Seattleites who don't live in Capitol Hill and don't attend concerts every night. But, maybe next month I'll grow thick skin and come by.

Posted by James | January 10, 2008 5:29 PM

and dan's not there....

Posted by Finishtag | January 10, 2008 5:29 PM

LOL @ no photo policy

Posted by stu | January 10, 2008 5:31 PM

You should bring some balls, too. I'm not sensing you have those.

Posted by Sarah connor | January 10, 2008 5:37 PM

Have fun. I'll try to make it down to Seattle for one of these someday.

Posted by Gabriel | January 10, 2008 5:50 PM

On my way.

I don't live on Capitol Hill, James. I'll buy you a $2 well drink.

You can find me with the Original Will sticker on.

Posted by Will in Seattle | January 10, 2008 5:51 PM

for now i prefer to keep my mental images of everyone intact [for some reason all the ladies have brown hair and glasses, and all the guys have shaggy hair and beards. and not a fatty in the bunch!]. plus i don't live in seattle.

Posted by brandon | January 10, 2008 5:54 PM

No beard here, but you'll have to take it on faith. There will be no Fnarf this evening. I know you are all crushed beyond words.

Posted by Fnarf | January 10, 2008 5:56 PM

I have brown hair and glasses! And not too much fat... but I won't be there cause I refuse to leave West Seattle. Besides I'm lazy. And eating waffles. And drinking polluted water. And I'm over 40 so probably not cool enough..... Still - hope everyone has fun!!!

Posted by M | January 10, 2008 7:15 PM

Dear Everyone,

Love. Lots 'O love.

P.S. Mr. Poe is such a sex bomb. Original Monica is such a sex bomb.

Was that the Monica Guzman of the PI? God. I'm not saying she's hotter than Amy Kat Horn, but come on? Monica fucking Guzman? Hoooot.

My wife says it was indeed the one and only Monica. Wow. And wow. Please come next month Monica. I might say hi if I'm not too starstruck.

I'm not saying Monica Guzman is hotter than Amy Kate Horn. Scientifically, they are equally hot, and Jonothan Golob can back me up on that. I'm just saying wow, that's all.

Posted by elenchos | January 10, 2008 8:49 PM

Looks like elenchose had a good time. Y'all should report back for those of us who wimped out.

Posted by Gidge | January 10, 2008 9:04 PM

I walked in at 6:30 and saw a few people sitting at the bar and one full table near the front who may or may not have been other Sloggers. Didn't stay long enough to find out. Last month was a blast, but this appeared to be nothing like it.

Posted by RainMan | January 10, 2008 9:19 PM

Went, drank, enjoyed. 'Twas fun meeting, if not all or even most, at least some of you, and put faces to all these names I've come to know and love. And no longer will I have it in me to hurl flames at my fellow Sloggers with the same ferocity.

My only disappointment: the dearth of Stranger staffers. At the next one, I hereby promise to shower any Stranger writer who shows up with a full 30 seconds of praise, on demand, in Stranger "Blowjob" style, should they be so inclined to demand it.

Posted by tsm | January 10, 2008 9:25 PM

RainMan, we were all in the back. By 8 pm, we filled 4/5ths of the bar. Bigger turnout than last month, for sure, and everyone was extra natty (Christmas sweaters?). Most of the Stranger staffers went to Quartet at Town Hall instead, but who needs 'em. Bloggers A. Hecht, Gillian, Nick, Nan, Caroline, JZ, Dominic, Adrian, Jonah, Sam, and Ari were in the house. Monica from the PI!?! Why didn't you introduce yourself? Feb 14, 6 pm. Bring a date! I will drag Dan by his holey Levis.

Posted by Amy Kate Horn | January 10, 2008 9:49 PM

Sorry I missed it, guys. My day job...

Posted by Jonathan Golob | January 10, 2008 9:54 PM

Slog Hour on Valentine's Day sounds dangerous.

Posted by Gidge | January 10, 2008 9:56 PM

Sorry darlings - I spent the evening just a few blocks away at Swedish, in the surgery waiting room. The Colonel had some issues - something to do with some discs? - but he's on the mend now.

It was my duty to be a good Beacon Hill Housewife, so I waited patiently. I did some crosswords, read the latest Martha Stewart Living, and then was finally reduced to reading both the Weekly AND an October issue of People. The things I do for that man o' mine....

Hope everyone had fun. I'm much more interesting on the internet anyway.

Posted by catalina vel-duray | January 10, 2008 10:43 PM

Amy Kate, it was great to meet you and many of the other SLOG all-stars for the first time! Thanks for organizing this fine civic event!

Posted by Karlheinz Arschbomber | January 10, 2008 10:43 PM

The husband (Josh) and I had a wonderful time. At 10 p.m. the two of us had decamped to Dick's, along with Original Monique, Original Monique's boyfriend, (Original) Will in Seattle, and Felix.

And we are definitely down for a Slog party on Valentine's day. It's got to be better than overpriced, sub-par food with a pack of other boring couples at some restaurant.

Posted by Jessica | January 10, 2008 10:56 PM

I'm. So. Stoned. &. Drunk.

I am not a sex bomb. Grrrr!

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 10, 2008 10:57 PM

After Dicks, with Jessica, Josh, Christopher, Original Monique, and Will in Seattle, I managed to make it most of the way up the Hill without hitting on too many people. *blush*

Monique, je t'aime. :D

Jess, Josh, Chris, Buddy, and Will, y'all provided some of the best time out I've had in a while.

Poe and Adrian both are sex bombs, as is Dominic Holden. The three of you sitting in a row was delicious.

I'm going to put my drunk ass to bed now. G'night. :)

Posted by Phelix | January 10, 2008 11:10 PM
23 time you're mine.... cause you NEED me.......

Posted by M | January 10, 2008 11:13 PM

Slog Happy hurts a lot less when you've had three pints of beer.

Instead of three pints of Scotch.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 10, 2008 11:16 PM

I hope to make it one of these days

Posted by Clint | January 10, 2008 11:32 PM

Speaking as a newbie (and an Eastsider at that), this was a really welcoming non-scenester crowd. And yes, though it was pretty quiet at 6:30, it was mostly full by 8:00-8:30. I would heartily recommend anyone considering it to come to the next one.

Original Monique looks nothing like Mo'Nique except that they are both short. All the Eastside girls were hot (and a HUGE number of them, too! Who knew?!?) but they need my charming bride Inga to really complete the set. Next time.

Posted by Big Sven | January 10, 2008 11:35 PM

My fortune cookie advised me that "it's better to stay at home and be thought a despicable idiot than to show up in person and remove all doubt."

Glad you people had fun though.

Posted by Packratt | January 10, 2008 11:44 PM

We're still drinking, talking shit and smoking dope.

dominic, it's mark mitchell , NaFun

Posted by It's Mark Mitchell | January 10, 2008 11:45 PM

I really expected more hipsters, and yuppies from Idaho and Montana to be there.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 10, 2008 11:51 PM

@28 damn...wish I was there

Posted by gnossos | January 11, 2008 12:49 AM

I walked past some of you I'm sure. I mostly post on your evil non-twin, The Forums. It's ok. Don't try to comfort me. I'm OK with being evil.

You seemed like a pretty cool, open, and welcoming group of people.

I no longer think that all The Stranger readers are total hipster buttwipes. That's probably a good thing. Right?

Posted by toasterhedgehog | January 11, 2008 12:49 AM

Slog Hour on Valentine's Day sounds dangerous.

Yeah, someone could get laid or something...

Also, anyone hear form Amelia lately?

Posted by Mike in MO | January 11, 2008 7:01 AM

It was nice to talk to Amy Kate for a while, and I got to chat with some Sloggers. I'm pleased that you degenerates didn't permanently damage my fiancee.

Sorry I had to take off early. I probably shouldn't have gone to Azteca for dinner beforehand.

Posted by Greg | January 11, 2008 7:29 AM

This is so confusing... so many of you sound just awful to one another on Slog, and now you're all talking about how nice everyone is. I'm scratching my head on this one.

And what's up with all the stoned people?

Posted by James | January 11, 2008 7:30 AM

I had a great time. 5 beers deep, and the boyfriend had to pull me away from the bar.

I loved meeting Adrian! and Dominic. Amy Kate was lovely as always.

I finally got to me phelix, Rhett Oracle, Big Sven, and Karlheinz! Woot.

I loved seeing Bellevue Ave and his awesome girlfriend.

Poe IS totally a sex bomb, but we already knew that. ;)

Going to Dick's afterward with the crew was awesome. I needed some greasy food.

Posted by Original Monique | January 11, 2008 7:42 AM

Still a bit hungover from last night, only got about 3.5hrs of sleep, been at work since 530a.

It was a blast meeting everyone. O. Andrew, Mr. Poe, Adrian (you guys are like buttons!), Amy Kate, Nan, Karlheinz, Wisepunk, Mark Mitchell, Mr. Zwickel, O. Monique, etc, etc, etc.

Y'all are some sexy mofos and homos, that's fer sure.

Went to Cafe Presse' with Mark and Dom afterwards (fabulous), complained of hipsters, then watched Kate Bush vids and bitched about Lifelong. W00t!

Really looking forward to the next one now. Can we start a debate about something next time though? Y'all were far too nice. :)

Posted by NaFun | January 11, 2008 7:58 AM

Also, Mr. Poe, what was with the pelvic thrusting? Can I no longer trust hugs from you?

Posted by Greg | January 11, 2008 8:05 AM

You cannot.

Also, WHO had the cold?!

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 8:11 AM

We can disagree on Slog and still be awesome to each other in person because we aren't children. Also, the beer helps.

No need to scratch your head. =)

Posted by Original Monique | January 11, 2008 8:38 AM

James@34 & NaFun@36-

Original Andrew and I agreed last night (despite my wearing a Clinton badge!) that SLOG night is sort of like when Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf hear the shift change bell- no taking "work" home with you.

Posted by Big Sven | January 11, 2008 8:43 AM

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 8:49 AM

Sven, that's a fantastic image. :D

Posted by Phelix | January 11, 2008 8:55 AM

It's on Valentines day next month? Dammit!

In March, I'm coming, I swear.

Posted by violet_dagrinder | January 11, 2008 9:03 AM

@37--You got pelvic thrusting? :o

He just tried to grab my butt.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 11, 2008 9:06 AM

I shyed out and went to the Eagle, where everyone knows your name...

but, regrets, I have a few...

Posted by michael strangeways | January 11, 2008 9:15 AM

And what's up with all the stoned people? find this surprising?

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 9:32 AM

Poe, I had a cold last week, but I was one of the guys you didn't blow. So I don't think it was me.

Posted by wisepunk | January 11, 2008 9:33 AM
We can disagree on Slog and still be awesome to each other in person because we aren't children.

Actually, it would be more difficult to scream at a Slog poster you've met in person. Which I find a bit disappointing - what is the purpose of the Internet if not to indiscriminately hurl invective at faceless strangers? Well, that and porn.

Posted by tsm | January 11, 2008 10:20 AM

It was fun -- I think I got drunker than last time. Definitely wobbled home and had a long heart to heart with my housemate about... well, about what I can't remember, but the conversation lasted an hour and a half at least.

Posted by Katelyn | January 11, 2008 10:28 AM

I have a rather hideous hangover, but it was worth it...

Thanks everybody.

Posted by It's Mark Mitchell | January 11, 2008 10:30 AM

@44: You were standing right there when he did it. It was just as I was collecting my woman and heading out the door.

Posted by Greg | January 11, 2008 10:36 AM

Yeah, actually. I've never seen anyone get stoned in a bar in Seattle before. Other places? Definitely. (Two words: rural Midwest.) But, with all the comments about being stoned, it sounds like there was less drinking and more other things. Which for Seattle, I find shocking.

Posted by James | January 11, 2008 10:53 AM

You're not the only person I humped.

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 10:54 AM

Posted by Greg | January 11, 2008 10:55 AM

Mr Poe, if you have cold symptoms TODAY, you certainly didn't contract the bug last probably picked it up from whatever geriatric you were humping at the Crescent on Wednesday night or from your volunteer gig servicing the elderly at Fred Lind...

Posted by michael strangeways | January 11, 2008 10:58 AM

Original Monique @39:

Sorry to offend. But, it's really the bitterness and personal insults I've seen on comment threads that's kept me from going twice now (well, there are other reasons too, but they're less relevant here). $2 well drinks didn't quite seem to make up for it in my book. But, it's nice to know folks had a good time. Maybe I'll show up if these things are still going on in March or April.

Posted by James | January 11, 2008 10:58 AM

Poe is the new Hussy.

He gets it from me :)

Posted by Original Monique | January 11, 2008 11:03 AM

@56: But just think - you could punch Will in Seattle in the face. That's not tempting?

Posted by Greg | January 11, 2008 11:05 AM

Well, James, it's up to you. But nobody is going to beg you. Not with that limpdick attitude.

I reckon.

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 11:15 AM

Ah, James, dear one... it was a lovely time. Overwhelming at first, yes. But definitely fun once you take the plunge. Plus, it gives you faces/voices/personalities to put with the postings. That's gotta be worth it.

Posted by Phelix | January 11, 2008 11:18 AM

I think James has some emotional needs issues and wants us to beg him to come...PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!

mr poe, you're an expert at begging men to come: GO FOR IT!!

Posted by michael strangeways | January 11, 2008 11:22 AM

No thanks. My low standards won't let me.

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 11:25 AM

Katelyn and Original Monique are awesome! So is Mr. Poe! Unfortunately we got there after he had already left. Everyone was really nice though and I enjoyed myself and will go again, probably a little earlier next time.

Posted by Bellevue Ave's Girlfriend | January 11, 2008 11:47 AM

You can tell that Mr Poe is not feeling good today; his energy level is low.

Find a sunny spot in your house and lay in it and drink some juice.

Refrain from sexual activity. It drains your fluids.

Posted by michael strangeways | January 11, 2008 12:22 PM

Some of us (well, one of - ME!) managed to do BOTH! PLUS get my new tat touched up in between!

If your fellow staffers can't multi-task, that's their problem!

And the show was quite enjoyable - sorry you missed it by having to play hostess.

Posted by COMTE | January 11, 2008 12:38 PM

Oh, and any possibility someone might have found my cell phone in the back booth last night?

Posted by COMTE | January 11, 2008 12:39 PM

@66: After what Mr. Poe did with it, you don't want it back.

Posted by Greg | January 11, 2008 1:02 PM

We had lots of fun. I wouldn't try the punching in face thing, though, as I can't guarantee my old martial arts and military training won't kick in. Mind you, if you bought me a nice drink first (not like the one I spilled a bit off, sorry) that might be ok. First one's free, unless you get my glasses ...

Kate, Emma, Original Monique et al can do it anytime, of course ...

Posted by Will in Seattle | January 11, 2008 1:03 PM

@59, 61, and the rest:

Wow. Being dragged through the mud by strangers on a comments thread is a humbling experience. I think I'm done with this Slog commenting thing. So y'all can give it a rest now. That said, take care, folks!

Posted by James | January 11, 2008 1:04 PM

I had to miss this one - but I was the token fat guy at the last one, and hopefully the next one. Just a warning, so you won't needlessly expose yourself to unwanted sights.

I'm actually thin inside, but I'm afraid if the real me came out, Mr. Poe would seduce me, since I'm an older man.

Posted by rtm | January 11, 2008 1:10 PM

Oh, no. Now I'm feeling all choked up and dirty inside--could this be guilt?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's just the greasy burrito I had for lunch talking.

Take heart, James--you've probably set a Slog posting duration record for someone with such Eggshell-thin skin.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 11, 2008 1:23 PM

jeez james, get over yourself. We're all just a bunch of drunken loudmouth potheads.

Posted by wisepunk | January 11, 2008 1:23 PM

Agreed! If he thinks that is being "dragged through the mud by strangers" He obviously never read the Native American thread with Bellevue Ave. LOL.

He showed up AND brought his awesome girlfriend that we all LOVE.

Posted by Original Monique | January 11, 2008 1:40 PM

Good. Why don't you make a post in your shitty blog about how rude we all are? Oh yeah. Nobody would read it.

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 1:41 PM

I'm sorry James. I just read your blog and you're cute as pie. Please come back to the raft.

We'll throw Ecce Homme off, and keep you.

(thick skins take time to acquire; someone on Slog makes me cry about once a week 'cause they're jerks...then I move on...or get them put onto a NAMBLA mailing list...revenge IS a dish best served as soon as possible...)

Posted by michael strangeways | January 11, 2008 1:46 PM

He's cute?!!

I'm sure you'd find us not that bad, once you get to know us....

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 11, 2008 1:59 PM

I'm an angel.

Posted by Mr. Poe | January 11, 2008 2:14 PM

It can be a little challenging to feel welcome here but who cares? It's a public board and until they make it private you are welcome. I have come to love a bunch of people here and I'm old and far from cool.
Don't be scared away and your blog is cool.
When people bitch at you here just bitch back WAY LOUDER and be as obnoxious as you can and you will be fine.
That or hide behind fnarf!

Posted by mj | January 11, 2008 2:15 PM

I'm afraid he's probably not Slog material.

Have you considered the forums, James?

Posted by NapoleonXIV | January 11, 2008 2:19 PM

twas a hoot! But I wonder if I'm the only one who's experienced the slog-happy without actually drinking, well anything but cranberry juice anyway. I found myself noticing the ever increasing randomness of the babbling, and developing the urge to go read pregnant celebrity blogs.

Posted by poltroon | January 11, 2008 2:42 PM

"That or hide behind fnarf!"

mj, you're rocking my world today.

Posted by Irena | January 11, 2008 2:50 PM

@31, 79 - well, it was good to see Crow again, and hang out with a few of the Forum Fiends, although I notice many people don't like to mix tween Forum and SLOG.

Still very fun.

Posted by Will in Seattle | January 11, 2008 3:20 PM

Huh. I thought he only did that with toothbrushes.

Posted by COMTE | January 11, 2008 6:13 PM

James might be too sane, kind, and well adjusted for the forums.

Posted by toasterhedgehog | January 11, 2008 9:35 PM

Good point, toasterhedgehog.
