Democratic Debate in… One Hour?!?

posted by on December 13 at 10:00 AM

Usually these debates take place in something much closer to prime time, but things are different over there in Iowa. Today at 11 a.m. PST all the Democratic presidential contenders will be squaring off in what could be a hugely important debate, given the power of the upcoming Iowa caucuses. It’s sponsored by the Des Moines Register.

Will Clinton beat back the Obama surge? Will there be a question about the political use (and abuse) of Obama’s past cocaine use? Will Edwards pull the spotlight off of his two rivals and onto himself for a few moments?

You can watch the debate online here, or join in my liveblogging right here on Slog.

See you in an hour.

What about the juicy bit about Kucinich being barred from the debate because his Iowa campaign office isn't located in a rented storefront?

Meanwhile the GOP in the Senate by one vote killed the energy bill and kept GWB's Iraq War funded.

Hmmm. Which to pay attention to? A debate where the commentators will be talking about the horse race and not the policies and differences between candidates, or the news that is about our nation being destroyed by the GOP ...

I vote for the latter.

Agreed: GWB and the GOP suck.
The question is which Democrat can win?

What is this cocaine thing?
I want reform of drug laws but should our first post-Boomer, admitted coke using candidate be a presidential candidate?
Someone who has to win in Iowa and Missouri and Ohio? In the heartland?

Meanwhile Edwards will win Iowa I think because his supporters will turn out more.

Do you know where your neighborhood caucus is on 2/9??

Thanks for the heads up on the debate. Streaming technology on the interwebs has come a long way...

Kucinich ain't there,
So I don't care.

Stupid fucking Democrats. Afraid of a 110 pound man.

@3 I spent an hour or so googling around trying to figure out where my neighborhood caucus is going to be and had no luck.

Yet ANOTHER Dem debate??

I thought the Republicans were running on the pro-torture platform.
