The good folks at The Smoking Gun explore the dramatically rich story surrounding the restraining order filed by Bill Nye against a woman who may have been his wife for a few minutes. Key components: The Purpose-Driven Life, alleged emotional cruelty, and two bottles of mystery solvent. Enjoy.

weird. it seems like bill is over-reacting. but i suppose these things have to be taken seriously.

the smoking gun... what a site.

not to hijack the thread (especially since i'm the only post), but while there i read up on the meier case...

from a police report: Drew went on to say, the communication became "sexual for a thirteen year old." Drew stated she continued the fake male profile despite this development.

i thought sexual communication with a minor was illegal. could/should drew be charged for that if no other crime can be found?

What a bizarre story. Her declaration seems pretty sincere, and kind of sad. I wish she would have explained why their marriage license was "returned as invalid". Bill's handwriting is impossible, though.

and NOW YOU KNOW...
...kinda bizarre...is this the experiment where Bill tries to act like a normal person?

I'd like to know more about the license thing too - I mean, what on earth would cause them to invalidate a marriage license?

Wow, things must be bad when Bill Nye is too big to live in Seattle.

he's not too big... his apartment was converted to a condo so he had to move out of the city. way out.

Bill hasn't lived in Seattle for something like 12 or 15 years.

Incidentally, Nye's former weed-killer pouring spouse is Blair Tindall, author of Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music.

So what happened between the time the happy couple settled into a house and the time when the notification of invalidity came? Why did Bill say, "You know the new house? Um, you're not moving in."

She probably went bonkers because she thought she was on Easy Street and had that reality pulled out from under her.

Yes. I also want to know all of the above. Why marriage license invalid? Why Bill change mind? Get on it, reporters.

If he did in fact write about Blair Tindall, "Now she has fallen for me (as they always do", that sounds like the Bill Nye I played against in the co-ed Ultimate Frisbee leagues and tournaments of the early 90's - self-absorbed, whiner, poor sport - or saw holding court at Bizarro restaurant in Wallingford.

Not sorry to find out he took it to Studio City.

The marriage license was invalid because the ceremony preceded the purchase of the license. State law says the license has to come first, and their spur of the moment wedding was probably too late in the afternoon to get one the same day. Maybe somebody should be asking pastor Rick Warren about all this? Shouldn't he know better?
