Arts Whiting Tennis Talks

onYou must listen to Seattle artist Whiting Tennis talk. This episode is one of the best artist interviews ever on In/Visible (the weekly art podcast). Seriously.
Did you know, for instance, that the piece the Seattle Art Museum recently bought was actually intended to move around the city, sitting in empty lots, Matta-Clark-style?
That a cat carrier can be made of string?
Tennis is smart, he’s open, he’s slightly grumpy, he’s easygoing, and he’s an important Seattle artist. Check it out.
Detail of Blue Tarp by Whiting Tennis (2007). The whole painting is 12 feet wide and 8 feet tall, and went on display Saturday night at Tacoma Art Museum.
please tell me that he didnt use blue tarp in place of canvas
My friend has that exact same painting in his garage.
My dad has that painting in the backyard.
Did he do a series of installations around South King County?
Check out this piece, I call it "Bungee Cord"
Now I know why most artists are starving.
I love the scene in Me and You and Everyone We Know with the 'artist' and the piece of trash on the floor, followed by the stolen coffee mug. Priceless.
#4 Very pretty. You really captured the cord's essence. I wept.
Stop Graves now before she ...
Oh my fucking god, you gave this woman a podcast!!!! Melt my iPod now, Lord.
My god, you guys are boring. Can you please try to refrain from saying the same exact my-kid-could-have-done-that shit on every post -- which, anyway, involves JPEGs of art that you haven't seen? Giuliani, anybody? Blah, blah, blah. If you can't write anything interesting, come to Slog!
P.S. No, it isn't an actual tarp, you tools. But you wouldn't find that out unless you actually listened to the podcast.
Why do idiots come out of the woodwork when it comes to art as opposed to sports or cooking or movies? Or are the idiots everywhere?
No, you are boring and an idiot Jen Graves! And a tool...and....a bunch of other stuff too! So there!
Hey look! The Emperor isn't wearing any clothes!!!
A pretentious art critic? Writing about art? NOOOOOO!!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!
@8
Yeah, that's why you're here.
Jen, if it was enough to make me ask whether it was in fact a blue tarp instead of canvas, then he's done a good job.
Tarpe d oeil?
is the description of the blue tarp painting supposed to enlighten? the work is superficial and the thought behind it possibly thinner. observation has value when insight results, not when you walk past something, think its cool, and repeat. him and twombley? come on. give us more credit than that.
