The Pro-Abortion Republican Front-Runner

posted by on May 7 at 20:24 PM

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani in his campaign appearances this year has stated that he personally abhors abortion, even though he supports keeping a legal right to choose. But records show that in the ’90s he contributed money at least six times to Planned Parenthood, one of the country’s leading abortion rights groups and its top provider of abortions.

It’s clear now that Rudy Giuliani has a forked tongue—and he’s out there campaigning with one prong up the religious right’s ass and the other up reality’s butt. I’m not a political pundit, but Rudy’s position on social issues seems like an unsustainable dual rim job to me.

So basically, IF the DNC picks someone offensive, and IF the RNC somehow gives the delegates to Giuliani, which I don't see happening, because Republicans value abortion and gay rights as issues over like, everything else in the universe, then if we click our heels together three times, we MIGHT get a Republican that MIGHT work with a Democratic Congress? Neat.

When Reagan was govenor he passed the most liberal abortion policy in the country with views similar to Rudy's. There's not necessarily a contradiction here. A real contradiction would involve a piece of shit like Edwards telling an 04 audience that he's concerned about the cost of heath care and not mentioning how he made his money suing doctors and hospitals.

That forked tongue/unsustainable dual rimjob analogy has my head spinning.

Robot Ghost, you are an idiot. Edwards was a trial lawyer. To some (retarded) people, that is an insult, akin to being called a liberal. But to those who know something about the world around them, and are capable of coherent thought, the term "trial lawyer" is a good thing.

Doctors and hospitals are sued when they fuck up, bonehead. And trial lawyers mostly only win when they do a good job. That involves lots of expense on their part.

And, while I'm sure this is lost on you, retardo, those doctors and hospitals (and their insurance companies) have a whole shitload of trial lawyers on their side, so stop trying to pretend that they are somehow victims.

Pulling ones head out of ones ass gives you a lot more fresh air, but it also requires that you actually think for yourself. When you are ready to do that, check back.

Let's give him this much. He at least said it would be OK if Roe vs Wade was NOT overturned. All the rest of them would be celebrating.

It doesn't sound duplicitous to me, it sounds exactly like what he says his position is: pro-choice. Being personally opposed to abortion doesn't necessarily mean that he has to condemn pro-choice groups. Would it be hypocritical if an atheist donated to a group advocating freedom of religion?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Giuliani EVER--pre-whoring himself out to the fundotards--express his personal "abhorrence" for abortion? Giving money to PP would seem like an odd way of doing so. I'm pretty sure that makes Rudy duplicitous. And lame.

Rudy's campaign speech...

"9/11!"

I too am a supporter of Planned Parenthood, and I am pro-choice. However, Planned Parenthood provides a myriad services which do not involve abortion *and* actually prevent the need for abortion.

For that reason, I think it's a good idea for anyone who "abhors" abortion to support Planned Parenthood.

I'm really struggling to see any contradiction in Guiliani's position there.

Just out of curiosity, is a sustainable dual rimjob possible? Or is it just another sexual impossibility propogated by the pornography industry?

Re: the comment about Edwards and trial lawyers. Medical malpractice accounts for something like 1-2% of medical expenses, and a declining proportion in recent years. There is no correlation between medical lawsuits and higher costs in general (say, for defensive medicine that results in unnecessary tests). In fact, there appears to be a negative correlation.

In short: the idea that medical malpractice costs are responsible for higher medical costs is a baseless right-wing talking point.
