Thank you, Megan. That was so sweet!

Almost worked, too.

There's nothing cuter than an eisbear*. Unless it's a klein eisbear.

*I have no idea how to spell in German.

Oh Gawd that was sweet. And to think their habitate is melting away. Roads more roads, cars more cars, that's the answer!

Why oh why the fuck has genetic engineering not let us make animals that are permanently babies. I want a damn baby polar bear and I want it right now. All you lazy godless scientist stop dicking around with stem cells and evolution and do something productive like permanent baby animals.

7 long do you think it'll be til Knut mauls one of his handlers?

Exactly! K-nute (I love that the Germans actually pronounce the "Kuh"!), may be cute-n'-cuddley NOW, but what happens when he grows into 900 lbs of seal-gnawing menace?

My german is a little rusty, but I think the girl is singing about how he's being trainied by der furher to lead the invasion forces of the Fourth Reich...

Knut is very cute, but that song is such treacle it makes me gag. Here are the translated lyrics:

Knut, he is a teddy bear,
but he has no mama now,
still he is sassy and happy,
and the star of the zoo!

Little critter all in white,
and he got all cuddly soft,
everyone loves Knut so much,
we're so glad you're here!

Knut, Knut,
little polar bear from the zoo,
Knut, Knut,
life is good for you.

et c.

Make my day better???!!! WTF!!!!! The "cute" little baby was REJECTED by his MOTHER!!!! Christ!!!! Talk about a real downer!! Wait...Ohhhhhh he is so cute with his little dumb bell in his mouth!! Lookie at Knut, he is going to the gym!! Oh, working out already and parental rejection.... I think he is gay.

Posted by Andrew | March 24, 2007 6:41 AM

Comte and Joey,
Well since its a zoo and all, my hunch is that he will live in the polar bear habit with all the other 900 pound polar bears they got.

Posted by Giffy | March 24, 2007 7:31 AM

i vote for permanent baby animals too! ooh and permanent baby republicans.

I prefer not knowing what the lyrics say - "Knut is ein cooshy-bear" sounds so darn cute. It just can't be as cute if you know what it says.

Giffy @ 6:

There is a way to keep an animal a baby forever - some sort of hormonal injections that prevent the animal from developing further.

Hah, point for Andrew (#11)!

I still have the white teddy from childhood -

nice post, sending to nieces and other school kids - less jaded than the Danger readers

have you paid attention to the claws on these bears when grown, sharp and with one swipe the seal's head is gone
