Einar and Jamex de la Torre

Born in Guadalajara and based partly in Southern California and partly in Mexico, brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre make barbed, eye-popping, anything-but-delicate glass sculptures by throwing together flaming Catholic symbolism, American street culture, Aztec-iana, porn, border politics, and whatever the fuck else is on their minds (testicular cancer, gambling, Fox News, Valentine's Day). They only show here every few years. The best preparation for seeing their work is staring directly at the sun. (Traver Gallery, 110 Union St #200, 587-6501. 10 am–6 pm, free.)

Just from that little graphic, I'm more interested in that than in most of the glass art I've ever seen.
