One reliable fact in this unreliable life is that the only reason anyone does not like Jeffry Mitchell's artwork is that they have not seen it.

His new show at Ambach & Rice in LA—mostly ceramic sculptures with an iridescent brown glaze reminiscent of
Pennsylvania Dutch pottery—has been reviewed in the Times.

Here's our Genius profile of him from 2009.

This image on the heels of the foie gras post provides unintentional hilarity/nausea.

Really? I hope there are better photographs then, or better examples of his artwork, because that image just isn't doing anything (good) for me, let alone giving me the certainty of approval you claim to expect.

I'm going to have to take your word for his genius (and your 2009 piece is relatively convincing) but I can't seem to enlarge that photograph big enough to look like anything but a giant deformed apple fritter.

#1 FTW!!
Wait, did I miss the memo? May 1st is the new April 1st? This looks like an iridescent turd reminiscent of something a stoned hippy who mistook his glitter-paint for his herb tea would crap out.

This show also got a great write-up in the NYT blog, http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/…. And he'll be having a huge mid-career survey at the Henry this fall, http://www.henryart.org/exhibitions/upco…. It's a pretty damn good year for Jeffry! Go, tiger!

Well, if he wanted to completely insult both Jesus and Judas, than this is genius indeed. Because my first impression was it is two dogs.

Oh ya, I remember these pieces when he made em. U know, the nite he got smashed (as usual) and ate way too much mole chicken at Roy's house(or was it? when is a house not a house?) and then got those double chocolate cupcakes at ROYALE with Joey afterwards and then, BAM! Jeffrey barfed all over the studio creating well, pure genius!
