GOP has accepted a fact made popular by Thomas Piketty's bestseller Capital in the 21st Century: The US has a serious and worsening inequality problem. Indeed, an aide to Mitt Romney recently told Chris Matthews on his show Hardball that, despite economic and job growth, Obama has failed to solve inequality. He was not speaking for himself...
ā€œUnder President Obama, the rich have gotten richer, income inequality has gotten worse and there are more people in poverty than ever before,ā€

This is Romney. This is the speech in which he quoted Piketty. This is as strange as it is new. Only three years ago, inequality was never mentioned in mainstream economics, let alone on mainstream news shows. And while running for president in 2012, Romney stated again and again that anyone who raised the subject was motivated by envy. He made us understand that he would offer no apology for being a member of the tiny class of people who own more of this country's wealth than the bottom 50 percent. Piketty made nonsense of the whole envy and no apology thing.

Though the GOP now accepts inequality is a reality, it refuses to offer any realistic way to solve it. Piketty believes progressive taxes will do the trickā€”the GOP ain't having it. Kshama Sawant thinks raising the minimum wage significantly would help close the gapā€”the GOP ain't hearing it. What do they want? Of course, to give the "job creators" even more money and repealing of the Affordable Care Act. These wolves are the worst sheep dressers ever.
