DON'T BE A STOOGE, CHECK OUT NEW SEATTLE SUPERGROUP SSDD

New Seattle group alert! They're called SSDD (Same Shit Different Day, possibly) and their lineup hints at extraordinary things to come. SSDD feature guitarist Kimberly Morrison (Universe People, the Dutchess and the Duke), drummer Pete Capponi (Prancer & Dancer, the Intelligence), bassist Erika Mayfield (Le Cancer), and vocalist Kennedy Carda (Monogamy Party). So far, they have no music available to hear, and Capponi admits that it's hard to describe the music of such a new band; they've only played two shows to date. But he gives it a shot: "At this point, it sounds like Fun House–era Stooges mixed with the Wipers and Flipper." Carda, when encountered behind the bar at his workplace, Nacho Borracho, name-checks Pussy Galore and the Gun Club. Color us interested. SSDD are preparing to enter a studio to cut four to five songs. "We don't have a Facebook yet because it's my feeling that real bands have to do the hard stuff before they do the easy stuff," Capponi says. You have a chance to catch SSDD perform a few times in early 2015, starting with a January 13 show at Chop Suey's Dragon Lounge (the last ever #1 Bad-Asses night, [sob]), with Mommy Long Legs and DJ Stacy Peck. Beyond that, SSDD play February 5 at the renovated Sunset Tavern with Sashay and on February 14 at the Highline opening for Pierced Arrows and Deep Creep.

SYNTH MASTER MOOD ORGAN MOTORS TO OUTER HEAVEN

Timm Mason's one of the busiest musicians in Seattle—and one of the most highly skilled. When he's not playing guitar and bass for two of the city's most inventive psych-rock ensembles (Midday Veil and Master Musicians of Bukkake), he indulges in cosmic-disco excursions with TJ Max (his synth duo with Jayson Kochan) and explores the vast capabilities of his keyboard collection as Mood Organ. Under that last name, Mason is issuing the Outer Heaven EP for MOTOR, Debacle Records' mutant-dance-oriented imprint. The three original Mood Organ tracks evoke crimson-stained walls of a dungeon discotheque, as their icy tones and ominous atmospheres conjure thoughts of Goblin's Tenebre and giallo soundtracker Fabio Frizzi's darker scores. The EP's capped off with a rugged, sternly hypnotic remix of "Outer Heaven" by North Carolina producer Profligate. MOTOR releases Outer Heaven on vinyl and digitally February 3. Mood Organ's next live performance is January 17 at Kremwerk, where the 20th MOTOR event takes place. More about that major happening in a future issue. recommended
