  • Protesters concerned with police brutality shut down this morning's council meeting with songs and chants of, "Which side are you on?" As the meeting briefly adjourned, Council Member Kshama Sawant raised her hands in solidarity.

This morning's city council meeting—called to discuss Bertha's latest troubles and the $1.6 million spent on policing recent protests—was interrupted by protesters against police brutality who sang and chanted until Council President Tim Burgess declared the meeting over. (For a moment.)

As that happened, Council Member Kshama Sawant raised her hands in solidarity with the protesters, reports The Stranger's Heidi Groover. Then, five minutes later, the meeting resumed. It's still a wild ride, with one protester declaring: "We'll show them the same level of respect they showed us in the street."
