It's not a sinkhole! We heard back from the city about that Pioneer Square hole that seemed like nothing, but we had to investigate because we work for you asking the tough questions:

"A tree at that location was recently removed by [the Seattle Department of Transportation]," writes SDOT spokesperson Norm Mah in an e-mail. "Apparently there was concern when someone spotted the void that was created after the tree removal. Our crews will be filling the hole. We are not aware of any sinking or any problems with underground utilities at that location."

Thanks, SDOT! But just so you know, Slog readers agree it's either mole people or Mayor Ed Murray's escape from the ongoing tunnel drama. And I trust them.
