Remember last month when the city complained about how much it had spent on police overtime responding to local protests against police brutality? Remember how the number back then was $586,000?

Well, holy shit. The Seattle Police Department has updated its totals and that number has more than doubled. According to the original post on the SPD Blotter, which has been updated since it was first posted, overtime costs from November 13 through December 16 totaled $1,641,821.

That total includes planning meetings ahead of the November 24 grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri; $92,600 for the massive student-led march December 6; and $103,000 for what turned out to be a tiny anarchists march near NikeTown December 8. Find the full list of costs here.

This will no doubt add fuel to the arguments of people like city council member Kshama Sawant, who has questioned the police response to the protests and asked SPD to come before the council and answer questions about it. That's set to happen at a council briefing at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
