Yesterday morning, Macklemore gave an interview on New York radio station Hot 97, discussing cultural appropriation, hiphop culture, white privilege, the Iggy Azalea situation, and the impact his race had in his success (though no mention of his gender). Throughout the hour-long interview with Ebro Darden, Macklemore comes off as sincere and self-aware (much mores so than he did after that extremely insensitive costume incident last May), and even if you can't stand him/don't buy it, it's still a real and interesting conversation about a massively complicated set of issues that we should all be having more conversations about, especially those of us with millions of dollars and a golden platform.

For me, as a white dude—as a white rapper—I'm like, how do I participate in this conversation? How do I participate? How do I get involved on a level where I'm not coopting the movement or I'm not making it about me, but also realizing the platform I have and the reach that I have, and doing it in an authentic and genuine way? Racism is uncomfortable to talk about.
