The Interview will soon be available at an independent theater near you. And on your TV, because fuck independent cinema, right?

Like many of you, I'm sick of The Interview, and I haven't even seen The Interview. But I was pretty happy with how the whole story ended yesterday: Not only is the movie coming out on Christmas, but it's only playing in non-corporate, art house theaters like Ark Lodge Cinema in Columbia City. This was a heartwarming conclusion to the story: Not only did the film survive the cowardly actions of studio executives and corporate theater chains, but it was going to put some extra cash in neighborhood movie theaters that could use a little multiplex money. Everything came together into a happy ending.

And then Sony had to go and fucking ruin everything. Steve Kovach of Business Insider writes, "Sony will release 'The Interview' online Wednesday, the company announced. The movie will be available at 1 p.m. Eastern on YouTube, Google Play, and Xbox Video."

God fucking damn it, Sony. You had a happy ending. You were pushing the movie out to brave theaters that support freedom of expression. And then, after movie theaters convince you to let them screen your movie, you undercut the whole goddamn beautiful statement of support by making the movie available through online rental? You could not have handled this entire situation more poorly, Sony. You have botched every single aspect of this whole terrible saga.
