This just keeps getting more and more ludicrous.
Three movie theaters say Paramount Pictures has ordered them not to show Team America: World Police one day after Sony Pictures surrendered to cyberterrorists and pulled The Interview.
The movie theaters, including Austin's world-famous Alamo Drafthouse chain, were going to show Team America, which features a parody of Kim Jong-un's father Kim Jong-Il, in direct response to Sony's pulling of The Interview. It was a clever bit of programming, a poke at Sony's cowardice. And now it's a clear illustration of how totally bugfuck crazy this situation has become. Team America is still available at finer video rental stores, and it's also streaming on Netflix.
UPDATE: Speaking of "finer video rental stores," Scarecrow Video just posted a very interesting tweet:
We "pulled a few strings" of our own so you can come see a Free Secret movie tonight at 7pm in our Screening Room. Censorship sucks.
