Sorry in advance if this jam is a buzz-killer. Look, I know I oughta be all like, "TGIF! LET'S PARTY!", 'cause it's Friday and shit, but I LERVE this Alice Cooper Group jam, "Fields of Regret." God damn, there really is ZERO cheer here; the song's plodding psychedelic expansiveness comes on like that odd uncomfortable feeling of having taken a bit too much STP way too early on a sunny day.

This song is on ACG's first LP, Pretties for You, which is unlike any other Alice Cooper album, as it was the culmination of the group's writing when they were still playing as the Nazz. It was also a time when no one was telling them which rules to follow, obviously! I've always regarded Pretties for You as an American equivalent to the Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn—the songwriting on the album is inventive, weird, and dark (it's VERY American in its darkness).
