There's not much left to say about Elizabeth Lauten's rude, ill-advised, and career-ending comments about the Obama girls...

Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father don’t respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I’m guessing you’re coming up a little short in the ‘good role model’ department. Nevertheless, stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar. And certainly don’t make faces during televised public events.

...except for maybe this: Women and girls "deserve respect" regardless of how they're dressed. Women and girls also deserve respect regardless of where they happen to be sitting (at a spot at the bar, on a seat on the bus, in the next cubicle over) or standing (on the edge of the dance floor, in line at the DMV, next to their father during a bullshit non-event). Men also deserve respect regardless of what they're wearing or where they happen to be sitting or standing. Everyone deserves respect. But dividing women into two groups—women who are deserving of respect (because they're dressed the right way) and women who aren't deserving of respect (because they're dressed "classlessly," because they're sitting in a bar)—reinforces sexist cultural attitudes that make the world a much more dangerous place for women and girls however they're dressed or wherever they're seated.

And speaking of awful teen years...

Elizabeth Lauten, the GOP staffer who resigned Monday morning after calling President Obama's teenage daughters classless, was arrested when she was 17 for shoplifting, according to the Smoking Gun.

Classy.
