  • Genesee Park off-leash area: a dog thing you wouldn't understand...

The thing that is always astonishing to me is how calm even the busiest dog parks are. The dog clearly becomes another animal when it enters a space that's shared with other dogs. The dog of the home or apartment stays with the leash the moment its neck is liberated and the park's second gate is opened. There is almost no barking here. Fights break out, but not that often. The situation is much happier for all. A person can walk through a dog park without fear of being attacked. But this wonderful creature of public space vanishes the moment it returns to its master's property. Once behind a fence, or behind a door, the barking explodes.
