Today, President Obama announced an interesting new plan to preserve net neutrality: Basically, he wants the FCC to recognize the internet as a utility. As Jacob Kasttrenakes at the Verge explains, "This means that internet providers would just be pumping internet back and forth through pipes and not actually making any decisions about where the internet goes."

Net neutrality is popular with just about everyone except internet providers. (Find a video explaining net neutrality here.) And you know who else is against net neutrality? Teabaggy wingnut Ted Cruz:

"Obamacare for the Internet?" What the fuck does that even mean? I'll tell you what it really means: It means that Ted Cruz is going to try to collect a whole lot of money from telecoms when he runs for president later this year. And it means he's punching the hot-button word that he knows his followers hate. But it bears no relationship to reality. We'll have to see where the rest of the Republicans come down on this issue, but if they follow Cruz's lead, net neutrality might be the first victim of the midterm elections.
