Starbucks Raises Starting Pay, Okays Showing Tattoos and Wearing Black Denim: CEO Troy Alstead said the company will increase starting pay for all US employees beginning in January, as well as allow workers to show their tattoos. (Face and neck tats not included.) It’s unclear what the new pay rate will be, although the Seattle Times reports one barista’s rate was $9.50. The tattoo policy change comes after another barista started a petition that collected more than 25,000 signatures. Other dress-code-policy changes:

Baristas can also sport colored ties and neck scarves, as well as black denim. Shirts can be worn untucked if the shirt is no longer than the back pockets and “your midsection doesn’t show.” Multiple piercings — formerly a no-no — are now allowed, as long as it’s no more than two earrings per ear and a small nose stud.
The ban on “unnatural (hair) colors” — such as purple, green or pink — continues, however.

Starbucks also announced a new “Starbucks for Life” prize and the ability to order through your phone.
