Emerald City Soul Club/Talcum DJ Mike “Are My Pants Tight Enough?” Nipper is moving his Name of the Game soul night to every second Thursday at the Speckled & Drake, starting Oct. 9. It previously had been every second Tuesday. With NOTG now being closer to the weekend, Nipper can get even rowdier than usual on the decks, where he spins all original pressing 45s from the '60s and '70s, mixing in, he says, “some dancers and some sweet soul tracks” from his immense collection (8,000-10,000, at last count; he stresses that he won't be bringing them all to S&D).

Nipper—who also blogs here on Slog—hails Speckled & Drake as “super relaxed,” definitely not part of the new Capitol Hill, which has longtime residents replacing the “i” in Hill with an “e” and exiting the ’hood for cheaper rents. If you like Emerald City Soul Club and/or Talcum, but would prefer to hear the jams in a more intimate setting and with easier access to the DJ for prime trainspotting and record-nerd chatter, Name of the Game will satisfy your requirements.
