  • No more permits for aPodment-style buildings, at least for now, thanks to a court ruling.

Microhousing in the Balance: The war on small apartments continues. The city has stopped permitting aPodment-style building, CHS Seattle reports, after a King County judge ruled in favor of a group of neighbors on Harvard Avenue who sued to block one of them.

Seven-Year-Old Struck by Two Cars in Hit-And-Run: It happened at MLK and Genessee in South Seattle yesterday at about 6:30 p.m. Neighbors are enraged. The girl is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center.

Fire Destroys Fremont Metal Factory: Remember that 2 alarm fire that engulfed a Fremont building yesterday? It took around an hour to get under control. That might be because both companies inside the building—Asko Metal and Acu-Line—are both considered "large-quantity generators of hazardous waste," according to Department of Ecology. State inspectors found several violations (the AP doesn't explain what those are) over the past two years. If you walked through the water running off from the firefight, you're advised to wash your shoes to rid them of toxic chemicals.

Tom Morello Addresses Five Point-Gate: After Dave Segal posted the doorman's side of the story, the Rage Against the Machine guitarist responded on Facebook. He's calling it Pancake-Gate. "To be clear," he says, "at no point did myself or anyone in our party 'demand special treatment', a 'private room' or any other ridiculousness." Five Point owner David Meinert shot back: "Maybe you don't realize you were acting the punk, but you were." Classy! (Side note: think whatever you want about this stupid tiff, but let the record show that Morello absolutely killed it on stage at El Corazon earlier that night.)

Report Finds Seattle Police Wasted $1 Million on Overtime: A new report from the Office of Professional Accountability, SPD's in-house watchdog, finds that the department "failed to control overtime as an organization" last year. In some cases, that meant officers received overtime pay on vacation days and in one case, collected "31.5 hours of overtime in a 24-hour period." OPA's investigation came after an anonymous complaint about the lax overtime controls.

How Would You Grade the New Police Chief? She's been on the job about 90 days. KING 5 took a closer look at what she calls her "honeymoon" period and so far, and she seems to be getting high marks. The mayor and one City Council Member give her an A+. The president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild gives her a plain A. He disagrees with her, though, about changing the all-black uniforms of bicycle cops to yellow so that they're more visible—which strikes me as an excellent idea.

Hey! The Minimum Wage Went Up Again: It increased 15 cents to $9.47 an hour statewide to keep place with inflation. That's $18,940 annually, assuming a 2,000-hour work year (40 hours per week with unpaid holidays and sick days).

Proposed NBA/NHL Arena Moves One Step Forward: Billionaire Chris Hansen turned in a final stack of paperwork to the city regarding his stadium proposal, and the city's Department of Planning and Development will issue a report on the project in January. There's still no basketball of hockey team slated to come this way, however—Hansen has until 2017 to find one, per his agreement with the city.

The US Government Is Reportedly Killing Civilians in Syria: And President Obama has decided that his own policy to limit civilian casualties in drone strikes simply doesn't apply in this new offensive. Our sky robots must be allowed the freedom to bomb the Middle East into peace.
