After months of speculation, HBO has made its official announcement: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are signed up to star in season two of True Detective. Here are the character descriptions, provided by EW:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

HBO goes on to say that the season will revolve around “three police officers and a career criminal [who] must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

But don't worry, there's still plenty of speculation to go around—like perhaps the inclusion of Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss? I hope, I hope?—but regardless, filming starts this fall with the debut of season two probably coming in the summer of 2015. WOOT.
