  • Washington State Senator Maralyn Chase wants to go directly to jail, no waiting for the next legislative session.

At her meeting with the Stranger Election Control Board this afternoon, Washington State Senator Maralyn Chase said she wished the state supreme court's recent contempt order had sent her and her fellow legislators straight to jail. (Rather than giving them one more legislative session to come up with the billions for education demanded by the high court's McCleary decision.)

"I want to go to jail," Chase said. "Put me in jail. It'd give me a platform." She imagined the public listening more closely then, or maybe state legislators actually coming to an agreement once they're hemmed in behind bars.

In any case, Chase said, “We ought to be in jail. We are not following the constitution.” (The SECB agrees!)
