  • George Takei was seen dancing around at KEXP. <3 <3

• On Friday, I met George Takei at KEXP. If there is a human who comes close to being as sweet as George Takei, it might be his husband, Brad Altman, who told me that while Takei was dancing around the in-studio performance room: "I couldn't keep my eyes off him! No offense to anyone else in the room, but I couldn't keep my eyes off him." Awwwww. They've been together for 27 years.

• While I was Star Trekking/dying, Kelly O was getting a book signed by Charles Burns at Fantagraphics, and she was so starstruck she forgot to take his photo. But she DID remember, after the signing, to take a picture of the taco salad she was served at El Gallito.

El Gallito will serve your taco salad with a face for no extra charge!

• Oh yeah, also on Friday evening, four bottles of wine were consumed on a First Hill porch while five women listened to Elliott Smith and discussed who would play Elliott Smith in a movie about Elliott Smith. (Please don't say Owen Wilson.) Have you seen the trailer for the Smith documentary Heaven Adores You? And have you read the 33 1/3 book on XO?

• On Saturday, Stranger music critic Dave Segal was spotted at Jive Time in Fremont and probably left with the most #rare #vinyl #ever. I didn't investigate too much. I was too busy eating cake at Simply Desserts (white chocolate and chocolate, and berry cheesecake—cheesecake was best) and picking records for myself (Bad Brains and a Wham!).

• Also on Saturday, this happened in the International District:

Kendo, or Japanese fencing, at Nihonmachi Nite.

• On Saturday night in Ballard at Bad Albert's, singer Dejha Colantuono played with her Blondie cover band, Blackie. Colantuono sings "Call Me" the way you wish you could at karaoke—her voice is made of 14-karat gold.

• The Jeff the Brotherhood show at Chop Suey on Sunday night featured much hair and much fog. The songs ranged from Nirvana to the Rentals, with periodic sludgy/metal-y noodle breaks inspiring lanky crowd surfing. About every third song was rather good. Overheard: "Which Jeff are you gonna take home? I'm thinking the drummer. I just wanna wash that hair."

• A man with beautiful hair (of course) outside Chop Suey on Sunday reported that the band Hammered Satin had played at Tim's Tavern the night before and was incredible. "Total over-the-top glam—bellbottoms and platforms."

• This dog was seen at Fremont Oktoberfest yesterday:

This is Mandy. Isnt that Barry Manilow song Mandy about a dog? Or did I learn that from Cant Hardly Wait?

• Oh yeah, speaking of animals: I finished Wolf in White Van by the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle. It was one of those "I guess I am going to stay awake until 3 a.m. to finish this or I'm just going to stay awake thinking about it anyway" books. It might make you feel weird. Weird like how today is the last day of summer. Anyway, go see Paul Constant interview ("have a conversation onstage with") Darnielle at Barboza on Friday! I'm trying to get him to ask him "What's your favorite big word?" but I doubt he'll do it. He never takes me up on my dares.
