LEATHERDADDY'S EXPECTATION-CONFOUNDING MATH-METAL

(Blue Moon Tavern) Certain expectations are raised in one’s head when first listening to a band calling itself Leatherdaddy. Dark, surreptitious, vaguely profane expectations. And indeed, the four gents making up the group have no trouble soundtracking the more sinister aspects of life, beginning their Plague House EP with a torrent of pummeling, down-tuned riffage. But they’re also more than capable of changing gears, from bewitching math-prog breakdowns to relatively straightforward psych rock. They may hate the comparison, but they remind one at times of Tool’s protean take on epic metal, a sort of kitchen-sink approach to bad vibrations that suits these young lads well. SINDEN’S DARK TECHNO SNEAKS INTO MAINSTREAM CONSCIOUSNESS

Diplo’s made some dubious decisions with his Mad Decent label over the years, but signing Sinden wasn’t one of them. He’s the one artist on that roster taking techno to darker places than most of your big-festival panderers. Sinden also records for Fool’s Gold and Boysnoize, somehow convincing the folks who run these populist companies that his strange productions belong there. On Night Visions, his recent collab with Pilo, Sinden heads into funky-breaks territory with the same zeal for odd textures and tough rhythms. With Astronomar and DJ Fierro. Barboza, 8 pm, $12 adv, 21+. DAVE SEGAL
