Evidently the achy-est of breaky-est farts, Billy Ray Cyrus, had a daughter named Miley who, turns out, is a pop singer. Well, over the weekend she released her version of (what folks are calling) a Led Zeppelin song, "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You." Sheesh, her version sure has upset a lot of classic-rock types; the Zep cultists can't stop complaining how she "ruined" the song. Ugh.

Honestly, her version, which is a stock remake of Zeppelin's arrangement, IS NOT BAD. I actually dig the demo-like muddiness of the mix—it's not glossy, so it feels more like rock 'n' roll. Interestingly, for all the Zep fans calling bullshit, "Babe," like many Zeppelin songs, was not written by the band. The song was written by Anne Bredon, a folk singer in the '50s, and most likely poached by Page and company off Joan Baez's Joan Baez in Concert, Part 1 LP. Anyway, of all the versions of "Babe," which I've heard, I think I like Quicksilver's best.

PS: The Association, Man, and the Plebs, and Ugly Custard (!!) all turned in good versions of this well-trod song, also!
