BROOKLYN TRIOS INVADE CHOP SUEY

(Chop Suey) With the exception of Akron/Family’s Miles Cooper Seaton, who lives in Los Angeles, Brooklyn trios dominate this bill. Bear in Heaven boast an intriguing rĂ©sumĂ© that cites Prefuse 73’s Scott Herren, who released their first EP, and Rhys Chatham, who appears on their second record, so it's natural to expect music on the experimental side, except tracks from their fourth album, Time Is Over One Day Old, would fit comfortably on KEXP between JosĂ© GonzĂĄlez and Tame Impala. It goes down easy and leaves without a trace, but that just might be the ticket for those who've been binge-watching the news lately. Young Magic plumb darker depths, especially on the EPs that preceded their 2012 debut, Melt. For those tuned into their frequency, it's transporting stuff. KATHY FENNESSY

"A CONJUGATION OF NATURE AND SYNTHESIZED TONE SCIENCE": DREAM CARGO

(Hedreen Gallery/Seattle University, Cisco Morris Biodiversity Garden) Tonight you can enjoy the urban-academic outdoors and catch four of Seattle’s most fearless experimental musicians, augmented by visuals throughout the performance. Tiny Vipers (Jesy Fortino) is best known for her stark, raw folk songs she issued on two Sub Pop albums, but she’s rumored to be doing a synthesizer-based set. For the past few years, Raica (Chloe Harris) has been coaxing some of the darkest, most mysterious abstract electronic music in the region. LIMITS is Brother Raven member Jason E. Anderson’s outlet for brilliantly scattershot ideas re: matrices of mad synth frequencies and ruptured rhythms. Garek Druss—who is releasing his crowning achievement, Music for the Celestial Din, September 30 on Debacle Records—is a scrupulous artisan of drones that attain a sacred aura à la German kosmische group Popol Vuh. This show should be a wonderful conjugation of nature and synthesized tone science. DAVE SEGAL
