And it's going to only get worse. And the traffic is getting worse. And no one in power is really doing anything to improve the situation. From a text I received last night from a friend...
At 10 PM on Sunday, I was on I-5, and it was really busy. This is what the highways in LA are like at 10 PM.
If this city was really serious about public transportation, about running buses that are predictable and efficient, then it would simply require all of its citizens to have an ORCA card. In this scheme, those who can not afford the monthly charge would pay little or nothing, and those who are rich would pay way over the card's value. There would be no choice in the matter. Even if you don't use the card, you must still have one. Choice is not the same as freedom, nor is choice the substance of democracy—something many Americans have been taught to believe. Checks are frequently more democratic than choices.
