North Carolina to Stop Defending Its Gay Marriage Ban

Posted by on Mon, Jul 28, 2014 at 3:04 PM

The LA Times says:

North Carolina’s attorney general said Monday that the state would stop defending its same-sex marriage ban against legal challenges, just hours after a federal appeals court ruled that a similar ban in Virginia is unconstitutional.

Other states that will likely be affected by the ruling, South Carolina and West Virginia, insist their bans are still in place.

Meanwhile Utah is spending millions more to take their case to the Supreme Court. What a waste of money that could be better spend on schools, roads, the environment, or even prosecuting their 2 crooked Attorneys General. Gov Herbie is almost as worthless as Jan Brewer.

One more reason for me to leave the liberal cesspool of Seattle and move to Charlotte. My leash can't run out soon enough.

I think gay-marriage bans are unjust and unequal, and should be rejected both at the ballot box and in the courts.

On the other hand, I do not like the precedent of an executive having what is in effect a retroactive veto on laws possibly signed by a previous executive of another party, merely by refusing to defend them in court. If he is unwilling or unable sincerely to defend this law, someone willing and capable should be found to do so, and should be granted standing, much as was done when Obama refused to defend DOMA and some people more comfortable with gay-bashing were found and given the authority to argue it all the way to the Supreme Court.

Imagine if we had a Republican President right now, ordering the DOJ to deliberately tank those lawsuits attacking the ACA.

@2:

Oh, so I guess Texas has become too liberal for your tastes, or is it just that you finally realize your ambition far exceeds your abilities?

@2 Let me see if I've got this sorted out, you're a left leaning libertarian, gay leaning bisexual, who enjoys disrespecting your sexual partners, multiracial pro marriage equality, individual, yet you find NC's "Ok we get we've lost, but we'll keep it illegal and bitch about it" stance towards same sex marriage superior to Washington states, "yeah whatever get married" stance?

Oh and nice Freudian slip. You don't really want to live in a Red State, what you want is to bitch whine and moan about living in a Blue State while enjoying the benefits. It's your leash, you made it, own it.
