Israel Is Fucking for Virginity: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his country will do anything it takes to conquer Hamas in Palestine. "We’ll do whatever is necessary to achieve our goal of a sustained quiet,” Netanyahu told Fox News.

Lopsided Bloodbath Continues in Gaza: More than 1,060 people have been killed in Palestine udring the clash that began with Israel on July 8. Most are civilians. Meanwhile, 46 have been killed in Israel, mostly Israeli soldiers.

Awful: A two-year-old boy in Kent was hit by a truck and killed when he ran across the street.

Boeing CEO Insults Everyone Who Works for Him: As the AP reports, "Boeing Co. CEO Jim McNerney apologized Friday for saying the aerospace giant's employees were 'cowering' during his tenure, a comment one union official called 'a new low' in the company's relationship with workers."

More Delays for Tunnel Project: It will take longer than expected to hoist parts of the broken tunnel-boring machine from under downtown fr repairs because workers having "difficulty digging a 120-foot deep retrieval shaft," the Seattle Times reports. As is typical for the controversial $4.2 billion project, the state hasn't specified details of the problem but insists these snags won't upset their most recent timeline (which is already one year behind a previous schedule).

It's well past time for the blue helmets to get involved in Ukraine. Russia's been waging war and denying any involvement for too long already.

I'm going to agree with the judge in the Washington D.C. case. The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America does mention the right "to keep and bear arms". If you're going to say that people have, based on the Second Amendment, the explicit right to own ("keep") firearms, it would be internally inconsistent to then deny them the right to carry ("bear") them in public spaces. It's one thing to ban guns from being carried in certain public spaces, such as schools, parks, or civic buildings, and carrying a firearm onto private property should be left to the decision of the property-owner, but a blanket ban on taking a legally-owned gun out of one's house is stupid.

I'm in favor of gun control. I'm in favor of SMART gun control.

Most brilliant and moving speech I've heard since John F. Kennedy's speeches:

Councilmember Sawant at the PNHPWW Annual Meeting Keynote Address:…

(And yes, America is overdue for its first female president, and her name should be President Kshama Sawant!)

To hear a real slice of what occurred to Aaron Swartz, listen to this for several minutes, please:…

And why we need a President Sawant:…

Say, why not employ Israel's methods in Seattle; every time a murder occurs, the US government should send in the warplanes to level the neighborhood.

OK, Schell's dead, let's all have a group hug:

All rational people want an end to the war in Gaza. All rational people realize that means reaching a political solution. Take a moment and envision an end to the war in Gaza in the manner that you think is best and most fair.

What did you envision? What was the political solution? Two states? Three states?

No matter what you envisioned, if it included Israel, Hamas is violently opposed to that solution and will never accept it. They are committed to perpetual violent opposition to it and will never, ever lay down arms.

So how is the war in Gaza going to end if it doesn't end with either the elimination of Israel or the elimination of Hamas? Help me to understand.

@3: How could the UN be sent in when Russia has veto power in the Security Council?

High time to spin off UNICEF and other humanities and let the Donald level that ugly building by the East River and turn it into upscale shopping plazas and condos.

Ahhhh yes, the Blue Helmets. Come in, spread some syphilis around, maybe some cholera, then hide in their barracks sucking their thumbs when the killing starts.

I think Bob Dylan said it best:

Well, the neighborhood bully, he’s just one man
His enemies say he’s on their land
They got him outnumbered about a million to one
He got no place to escape to, no place to run
He’s the neighborhood bully

The neighborhood bully just lives to survive
He’s criticized and condemned for being alive
He’s not supposed to fight back, he’s supposed to have thick skin
He’s supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in
He’s the neighborhood bully

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land
He’s wandered the earth an exiled man
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn
He’s always on trial for just being born
He’s the neighborhood bully

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize.
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad
The bombs were meant for him. He was supposed to feel bad
He’s the neighborhood bully

Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim
That he’ll live by the rules that the world makes for him
’Cause there’s a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac
He’s the neighborhood bully

He got no allies to really speak of
What he gets he must pay for, he don’t get it out of love
He buys obsolete weapons and he won’t be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side
He’s the neighborhood bully

Well, he’s surrounded by pacifists who all want peace
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease
Now, they wouldn’t hurt a fly. To hurt one they would weep
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep
He’s the neighborhood bully

Every empire that’s enslaved him is gone
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon
He’s made a garden of paradise in the desert sand
In bed with nobody, under no one’s command
He’s the neighborhood bully

Now his holiest books have been trampled upon
No contract he signed was worth what it was written on
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health
He’s the neighborhood bully

What’s anybody indebted to him for?
Nothin’, they say. He just likes to cause war
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed
He’s the neighborhood bully

What has he done to wear so many scars?
Does he change the course of rivers? Does he pollute the moon and stars?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill
Running out the clock, time standing still
Neighborhood bully

Just about right.
But Israel must work harder with PA to establish Pali state in WB and, maybe, Gaza.

@14 That would sound credible if murder wasn't answered for with all-out war and settlements on the supposedly recognized state were ceased.

Wrong. Most of those 46 were killed in Gaza, not Israel.

Please correct, Dominic.

@16, so you're saying that Hamas must be eliminated.

Now, how is that going to happen?
Posted by Charlie Mas on July 28, 2014 at 6:54 AM · Report this
In 2007, after Hamas was democratically elected, it consolidated power by murdering its rivals. The rivals were pushed off of buildings or shot dead in the streets, and with the bodies then dragged through the streets. Hamas hangs gays. Hamas condones the honor killing of women. It burns churches. It denies citizens the pleasures of alcohol. It is a totalitarian regime bearing a Sharia-law accent.

For the past seven years Hamas has received billions of dollars of aid. Hamas failed to construct civilian infrastructure such as water desalination plants. Instead, it used that money to construct a totalitarian version of "Ant Farm" with its underground tunnels and to fill them with missiles that it smuggled in by sea and by land. Hamas has fired more than 2,000 missiles into civilian areas of Israel and then uses the dispensable poor as missile shields.

More than 40% of Gaza is rural. Check Google Maps. None of the missile batteries are built in the rural areas. None of the missile batteries are built in the luxurious seaside enclaves of the party faithful. Instead, Hamas turns the screws on the poor by locating its missile batteries within the densely populated areas of the poor. By its firing of missiles into civilian areas of Israel from civilian areas of Gaza, Hamas has committed a double war crime.

The information about the number of total Gazan deaths, and how many are and are not civilian deaths, comes from a closed society. This information is as valid as news coming from North Korea or Iran. Yes, there are horrible civilian deaths and some are children. Unfortunately, the cause of those deaths is attributable to Hamas.

Last, the solution to this war is for Israel to destroy the tunnels and the missiles. That is demilitarization. Coupled with that is foreign aid that is used solely for civilian purposes and not for the making of war. No missiles, no war.
