1. The reading party's next Wednesday at the Sorrento. The drink special will be fresh cherry Sangria for $5, the musician will be Darrius Willrich on piano, and the host will be Charles Mudede (I'll be out of town). If you've never been to the reading party before: Nothing happens. You just sit and read whatever you feel like reading while live music plays and a waitstaff waits on you. 6 pm, free.

2. A little bird told me that the Sorrento is hosting a champagne reception for George Takei tomorrow night. He's in town to be the grand marshal of the Pride parade on Sunday. Tomorrow night's champagne thing is a private event, but it will be held in the Fireside Room, which as you know if you've been to the reading party, is only semi-private, so if you really wanted to stumble into the former helmsman of the Starship Enterprise, you could probably make that happen. Just saying.
