Meant to post this earlier, but got sidetracked. Fortunately, there's still time for you to catch the 10 pm 21+ Koo eeX set at the Royal Room tonight (cover is $18 at the door; the all ages show is happening now). Koo eeX consist of Funkadelic/Talking Heads keyboardist Bernie Worrell, Skerik, Stanton Moore, and Preston Singletary.

From the Royal Room's website:

This band is conceptualized by local Tlingit glass artist Preston Singletary (bass). It features Bernie Worrell (keys), Stanton Moore (drums), Skerik, (sax), Captain Raab (guitar). Also featuring Native storyteller/actor/performance artist Gene Tagaban, and visual artist Clarissa Rizal on vocals and spoken word. Khu.éex’ translates to “potlatch” in the Tlingit language. Using Alaskan Tlingit music as inspiration, the band performs contemporary Funk/jazz improvisations for the foundation and traditional vocals are layered and interspersed with spoken word and storytelling.

  • Funkadelic/Talking Heads keyboard legend Bernie Worrell tracking this afternoon with Midday Veil at Avast.

In other news, Mr. Worrell recorded keyboard parts today at Avast Recording Co. with Seattle psych-rock band Midday Veil, who are working with producer Randall Dunn on the follow-up to their 2013 album The Current. To put it mildly, Midday Veil are excited about this turn of events.

Midday Veil perform at the Seaprog festival Sun. June 22 at 9 pm.
