Because Seattle is not an old city, its ghosts are not old. They all died young, they all died unnaturally. Here is one of our three main ghosts, haunting a gritty wall that faces the Jose Rizal Bridge...

The other two ghosts of this city are, of course, Kurt and Jimi. None of our ghosts are terrifying or are bent on frightening us in the middle of the night by abruptly opening and closing the kitchen drawers and rattling the cutlery. Nor are they trapped here because of some unsettled business. They are here because this is where they prefer to be (barely be, that is) after death. Ours is a city that's fine with their form of haunting, which is more in the mode of loitering than anything else.
