Matalepuna Malu, who police had named as a suspect in Sunday morning's double homicide in the Leschi area of the Central District, turned himself in yesterday evening at Seattle police headquarters. Today, Mayor Ed Murray and Interim Police Chief Harry Bailey personally delivered the news of his arrest to nearby residents.

Both homicide victims were in their 20s, the Seattle Times reports. Malu, a 26 year old felon, hailed from Everett and had served 30 months in prison for firearm possession.

The individuals responsible for three Central District murders in April, as well as gunfire at Othello Park, however, are still at large. SPD has not yet named any suspects in those cases. "Violent crime is our number one priority in every community in this city," police spokesman Sean Whitcomb told us last month.

UPDATE: Officer Drew Fowler from SPD's media office tells me the victims were 23 and 27 year old black males.
