Seeking a Piano Player to Accompany Wednesday Night's Reading Party

The piano is just beyond that curtain on the left.
  • The piano is just beyond that curtain on the left.

For the last nine months, the wonderful and amazing harpist Will Bielawski has been playing while people read at the silent-reading party. Everyone loves the harp. But folks on twitter have been begging for a piano player to be added back into the mix, ever since one former reading party pianist moved to Portland and another left Seattle to travel the world. Do you play the piano? Do you play music that would work well in a room full of people silently reading to themselves? The pay is $50 an hour and comes with a free drink or two. There's a reading party two nights from now. If you're interested, send me an email.

If you like hearing "Heart and Soul" banged out with all the finesse of two drunk chickens (one has to do the melody), I'm your man.

@1, I can alternate between chords and arpeggios for the accompaniment, but I'd have to wear earplugs so the melody doesn't confuse me :)

@ Christopher: Does Nordy's still have live pianists? Often they have business cards out on the piano.

@3 -- I don't think they do. It's been years since I've seen a pianist at Nordstrom.

Beginning 6+ years ago, Nordstrom's began eliminating piano music, but it was reported just last year that as many as 30 of the 110+ stores still had live pianists, it being left up to individual store managers.

Nice story on the retired pianist from the Tacoma Mall Nordstrom's, Filipino emigrant and father of ten—…

—and what he's been up to since then:…

There are persons who play piano at Overlake Hospital who are wonderful. They are screened for their talents and love to donate their talents playing the beautiful grand piano in the lobby of the hospital. Give them a call, I'm sure one of them would be willing to come down and serenade your literary group. When is it? Maybe I could come! I play well, mostly by ear and it's a lot of Elton John and greensleeves and improvisation stuff. I would love to do it.
