(Tractor) Eight-piece Seattle rowdy boys the Country Lips make classic, rebellious country-western music THAT DOESNâT SUCK. I know most country music gets a bad rap as redneck-Republican sappy crapâbut trust me, these guys smash the mold and make music aimed straight for every modern roots country revivalistâs heart. Tonight marks the release of their second album, Nothing to My Name, which was recorded by Lips vocalist/guitarist Hamilton Boyce; mixed by Stuart Sikes (whoâs also worked with Loretta Lynn, White Stripes, Cat Power, and Modest Mouse); and mastered by Ed Brooks (the Moondoggies, Pearl Jam, and Fleet Foxes). For tonightâs show, bring your best dancinâ boots, and donât be afraid to do a whiskey shot or three. KELLY O

(El Corazon) Folk metal is a curious genre, combining the banjos-and-accordions world of folk with the fire-and-screaming one of metal. At its best, it augments metalâs pure, ferocious energy with a deep respect for land and ancestors, imbuing that ferocity with something like real purpose. In that vein, Turisas are basically Finland made flesh. Named for the Finnish god of war, they perform in armor and vivid war paint, thundering out anthems of strength and solidarity. Vocalist Mathias NygĂ„rd can bellow with the best of them, as well as singing in a commanding baritoneâI regularly get the urge to charge into battle behind him, which is inconvenient when sitting in traffic. Incorporating flutes, strings, horns, accordions, hand drums, and chants, Turisas make the kind of strange, multi-layered metal that doesnât get nearly enough traction in America. Go see them at Paganfest for your full dose of folk-infused brutality. KATIE ALLISON
